Fall of the Leviathan
The Leviathan was the name given to 23rd Legion floating fortress.
The fact that the 23rd Legion still had its floating fortress made them one of the strongest assault legions to join the Republic forces. The 23rd Legion assault fleet was used to break many of the more powerfully Defended Imperial Cites within Southern Izone.
When it came time to invade Northern Izone they were chosen to spearhead the assault. Unfortunately, the 1st northern city chosen by the Republic to attack was one that held a secret of The Original 10. All the different religious groups tried to persuade the Republic to change their minds but failed. As a result the 23rd Legion forward scouts began their aerial bombardment of The Gullet outer defenses. While the main fleet with its supporting nation's vessels slowly moved into position.
The fleet was holding station off the Northern Izone coast on the night of day 128 when the The Original 10 ordered there people to intervene and stop the fleet. lead by the War fleet of the Pinnacle of Mammetun attack from behind. This was also the signal for the auxiliary fleet ships to open fire on the 23rd Legion too. However many of them could not bring themselves to fire on friends and family on the 23rd Legion fleet ships. So instead they left the immediate battlefield and then helped recover any survivors after the battlefield moved on.
The main goal of the attack was to ground or destroy the Leviathan, removing the 23rd Legion fleet's ability to take down the shields around The Gullet but this proved to be harder than planned. for 15 days the surviving ships of the fleet and the Leviathan attempted to escape the War fleet of the Pinnacle of Mammetun. With most of the surviving ships refusing to abandon the Leviathan.
Unfortunately for the 23rd Legion the surprise attack did manage to damage the main engines making it impossible for the ship to escape unless it could make it to the protected waters of Aquamari. With The Grove of Oceans being one of the few support groups that chose to stand and fight with the 23rd Legion.
The Grove of Oceans paid for this loyalty by losing all of their airships and still had to watch the Leviathan go down just before reaching the safety of Aquamari waters.
After the battle, the Republic asked The War fleet of the Pinnacle of Mammetun why they had attacked. Mammetun Goddess of Chaos told them herself that they had been told not to attack The Gullet and that they would suffer if they did. They were also then told that the next time they refused to listen when The Original 10 told them not to do something all Divine support would be removed from the Republic.
