Water Gates

In the northern reaches of the country of Lac Des Hemiones, there are many deep cold lakes. There are 8 large lakes in the inland lowlands and many smaller ones. These have often been the scene for mystical events throughout the occupation of the land and still to this day many mysteries survive.
It is speculated that these lowland lakes are all linked through underground water passages hidden behind water gates. They believe this because items are sometimes lost in one lake and found in another. Who removes these items and transports them to another lake undetected is unknown, but it is surmised that the water gates have something to do with it.
The water gates are found in all the main lakes but who made these gates are unknown. It is speculated that they control secret passages that link an underground water passage between each lake but this has never been proven.
The myth associated with the water gates is as below:
A hidden realm lives in the land under and between these lakes. They travel between the various lakes by hidden underground tunnels that have entrances that are hidden just behind the water gates. The hidden doorways to the tunnels, through secret, will one day show itself if one of noble heart and honest intent swims through the underwater gates. The hidden world will then open its hidden underground water passages so that the people of the world will get to know of their existence.
The knowledge of the existence of this hidden race is however meant to not bring peace. The story says that this will bring with it many new challenges to the people of Exflora and it is no known if the ending will be beneficial for the region or not.

It is unclear what would lead up to that person swimming through the underwater gates however the myth is well known in the area and dates back centuries.
