Star Recorder

The Star Recorder is a complex recording machine that transposes a view from a telescope onto a sheet of paper. The oldest machine of this type is to be found in the mountain Theocracy of Puigreig dating back about 3,000 years. All other machines are based upon this initial design and although the first machine has now been superseded with more modern designs, it is still in working order and continues to record the night sky be it from a museum to house it in for posterity. The original designer of the machine is unknown but it is believed to be a monk from a local Puigreig monastery.   It is traditionally made up of 5 wheels however the more modern version of the star recorder machine has up to 15 wheels that produce greater accuracy and detail in the drawing.   The other interesting fact about the machine is that it rolls the paper as it is recording so that throughout the recording it can give you an arc picture of the sky and therefore over time a true representation of the sky can be obtained for any season. These pictures are a scientific record and can be examined by scrollers to see changes in the sky over time.
The machine has been copied and is housed in many of the observatories or universities throughout the continents of Stabatia and Romalia. It has also become a required piece of equipment to those organisations that seek to predict future events from the stars and as such has been used as evidence for events by religious organisations and governments alike.   The machine needs fine-tuning regularly to keep it accurate and there is an entire guild set up to manage the building and upkeep of the machines. Each machine usually takes a team of up to 10 people to manage these tasks. There are approximately 200 machines currently in use.
