Romalian Itch

Throughout the equatorial region of Romalian, a fungal infection is endemic to the waterways of the region. The fungal infections are mainly affecting the lands near the slower running tributaries of the main waterways. The fungal infection mainly affects children up till the age of about 8 years of age. The main areas of the body that is affected by the Fungus are the legs and arms with the ears also being a secondary infected area in many patients.    The Pink Coral Fungus releases spores into the air in the height of the dry season and these often drift and settle into the slower flowing rivers or ponds and react to the water becoming active and slightly sticky. The more stagnent the water the better the Fungus spoors react to the water. The Children, not having any resistance to the spores will often get infected through wading or swimming in the water. The result of the infection is a sickness for 2 to 3 days then a week of very bad itching. Once the child has been infected about 2 or 3 times they develop a lifelong immunity however their arms and legs often show permanent scarring from the itching.    Adults have more resistance to the fungal infection however especially travelers can also be affected badly if they receive a prolonged exposure to the affected water as they have not built up any amunity over their childhood.      Work is being done to mitigate the breeding ground for the fungus but because of the very remote and sparcly populated nature of the landscape a policy of mitigation is more important that irradication as this would seem impossible. There is also as yet no sufficiently suitable medicional treatment to the medical condition and some more work needs to be don't in this are ato come up with a cure.
