War Adages & Dragon Saying

Common Adages

Dragon Children

" To live amoung the dragons one must be a dragon. "
— Dragonborn talking about dragonkin
Dragons are fickle about which offspring are considered their children. Typically, Dragonborn are half-dragon and half-moral beings while Dragonkin are part-dragon and most-moral. Both Dragonborn and Dragonkin have physical traits from the dragon parent; it is believed dragon's have superior blood to a moral thus it will be visible over the other species.   To a dragon how the child looks does not matter, but how the child behaves is the main difference between the two. A Dragonborn is more likely to be claimed than a Dragonkin, however, a Dragonborn can be striped of this birth title if it can not prove itself to be a dragon. How a child smaller than the beast it came from proves itself is unknown as the dragons keep it a secret.

Defensive Adage

"We'll be ready next time"
— People digging their heels in to defense
When the Dark Ages began, the Prime-dwellers were hit hard and fast by many creatures with a variety of skills and weaponry. This saying are spoken by those who remember the war, or learned about the war in great detail. Prime-dwellers knew nothing of these creatures before they attacked, but now they are armed with knowledge, magic and weaponry. They believe that they will be ready for the next war because of these advancements.

Devil, Demon, & Teifling Adage

"Better to have a devil by your side, than teeth in your throat."
— war adage about teiflings
During the Dark Ages, many of the tribes of Prime-dwellers could no longer be separate people and intolerant of their fellow dwellers. They were all trying to survive and every hand that did not strike, but could hold a weapon and skills need by the tribe was welcomed.   Those of Devil, or Demon, blood became needed as they were one of the few Prime-dwelling species to harness magic. Though they were feared for their magical abilities, it was obvious to anyone that they were better than what they were trying to survive.

Safety is Illusion Adage

"Nothing is safe if it exists"
— war adage about safety
The Dark Ages brought creatures through portals, which were a problem, but not what this quote is referring. Portals were the worst element of the war, because they were unstable and continuously moving. These unstable, moving portals would force Prime-dwellers to keep moving thus building defensive fortifications and permanent structures wasn't possible. People and whole trees could be pulled to any of these portals just as a creature could emerge.

Geographical Distribution

Dragon Children

Dragonborn and Dragonkin learn quickly to never claim to be a child of a dragon without proving oneself to that dragon. If a dragon child desires to be claimed, it must live with a dragon and prove its worth. Although Dragonkin are common, Dragonborns have declined in numbers as less dragons mate with mortals. Every Dragonborn, or Dragonkin, which has tried to prove themselves say this phrase without any derivation in wording.

Defensive Adage

Long-lived species were able to travel more safely, this phrase has spread but it's original has been lost thus its variations survive. Now, it is not just long-lived saying this phrase thus it has spread across the continents.

Devil, Demon, & Teifling Adage

This phrase is no longer said amoung short, or long-lived, species as it's usage was to move past the fear of these beings to survive the war. It has fallen out of practice, because the tolerance of teiflings has increased and is no longer questioned. However, the trustfulness of a devil, or demon, is tepid as the survivors of war and it's descendants are experiencing the effects of those dealings with these beings.

Safety is Illusion Adage

Interestingly is phrase survives, despite the peace across the lands. Could it be the Fey? Those remembering the war? Or it's easy to apply unsafe situations? All of these are possible; because the Fey have a reputation of wrath and temperament. There will always be unsafe places and those living near them will feel unsafe till it isn't.
