Ardeleth Geographic Location in Exalted: in the Age of Sorrows | World Anvil

Ardeleth

Culturally similar to Halta but with more people of Linowan or other foreign descent. Fallen Lapis and all the towns were destroyed, by one side or the other, in the recent war between the Realm and the Bull of the North's Icewalker coalition. The remaining populace are doing their best to survive long enough to consider rebuilding.

As Blood on the Snow has been focusing primarily on providing food for winter (and is considering letting the towns wither away anyway), other problems have been growing faster than they can be solved. The current understanding of those in Gavirat is:

  • Fallen Lapis: Almost empty once-capital. Depopulated in the war, in a single morning by some dreadful magic. Small shadowland in the city, the palace is being used as his headquarters by Yaotl, High Lord of Talinin and Regent of Ardeleth. Whoever he is.
  • Blank Ford: We're fine. We're all fine here now, thank you. How are you?
  • Davala: Have sent a messenger bird that people are falling sick and supplies are running low. Snow wants to quarantine after sending in supplies & medical help - so no-one is leaving until the problem is solved.
  • Deir Balah: Stored food is going off unnaturally quickly.
  • Eternal Tree: centre of Caltia's worship in the kingdom, but more and more rites and offerings have been missed and the local gods are getting angry.
  • Kfar Safit: Almost no contact with the outside world, they are not responding to messenger birds.
  • Kukalaki: There's something in the woods, hunting those who get too far out of town.
  • Kunin: Cut off, messenger birds getting through but not people, the town doesn't know what's going on, probably the same problem as at Talurat.
  • Illalim: Conflicting reports about exactly what has stalled the reconstruction of the town but something has, some Icewalkers settled there after the war.
  • Jerim: A few too many lethal "accidents", especially amongst new residents.
  • Netud: Have never been able to grow crops on the ground, which is becoming more of a problem.
  • Talurat: Cut off, messenger birds getting through but not people, the town doesn't know what's going on, probably the same problem as at Kunin.
  • Tanhine: The ward-tower seems to be haunted (weird noises, cold spots, hallucinations), might not be safe to use, people might refuse to use it even if it is.
  • Travel

The local rivers are mostly navigable for river-boats (though few remain) and canoes, since paddling allows distances of 50 miles (or 25 upriver) per day the common routes incorporate as much river travel as possible, taking to the ground or the trees only when necessary. Historically Ardeleth had cleared and maintained a network of branch-paths between its towns, to about the same standard as the secondary branch-paths in Halta allowing experienced travellers to make about 15 miles a day; the paths have not been maintained since the war so now they exist as known, surveyed, routes that can be followed along the ground at a rough average of 8½ daily miles instead.

Links with a figure in the Return column require river travel, so the return (upstream) trip is longer, and canoes or boats will be required
The dangerous links from Tanhine to Illalim (and Davala to Illalim) are down the Arrodas River, the safe link uses the Rovegyes River instead
    Shattered Floes Kingdoms
The border kingdoms between Linowan and Halta, damaged to one extenr or another in the late war.
