Zara Babette Suha

(a.k.a. Lethe)

Personality

Zara is a slightly unstable, highly neurotic overthinker. Every move she thinks through to the T, and then all of the other ridiculous possible outcomes as well— it’s totally normal to consider the nuclear option every time, because what if it actually happens? Most of this anxiety is condensed down into seconds, because despite the number of possible choices at Zara’s disposal, all of her rationalization really boils down to what she wants in the moment, regardless of possible outcome. This applies pretty exclusively to her actions— Zara’s words are always heavily considered. With some clear intimacy issues, Zara is very slow to trust, but this issue is exacerbated with the fact that she’s flighty anyway. However, despite her faults, she’s not actively malicious or sadistic, and is faster to tears than she is wrath.

Evo Abilities

Pather

Rank: 3
Powers: Forced Forgetfulness & Lovesense
Examples of Type 1 Actions
Basic: (FF) Zara’s an NPC in the background, so forgettable she’s not really noticed. It isn’t that she doesn’t exist, it’s that she appears to be not noteworthy in the slightest. A passive forgetfulness. Must be within visual range. (Love) With visual range, can get the impression of whether or not there is love in a person’s life, romantic or otherwise.
Minor: (FF) Forgetting minor insignificant day-to-day conveniences. Forgetting things of little mind— ten or so dollars in the register not adding up, a missing piece of falafel from inventory. Forgetting she may have cut you off in traffic on a bicycle. Target must be within visual range. (Love) Through physical touch, she can get an impression of who you may love most. A driver’s license sort of impression. Basic appearance, name, and the flavor of love: romantic, platonic, maternal, et cetera.
Normal: (FF) Forgetting something of mind— she’s not supposed to be behind the till of the bank, forgetting she swung first in a fight. Making a person forget a close coworker or friend, or slightly painful or traumatic memories. Target must be within visual range. (Love) Through extended physical touch lasting longer than thirty seconds, can get an impression of a treasured memory of that person.   All memories forgotten are temporary, lasting for an hour unless the effect is refreshed or extended by further actions. Refreshing/Extending one of these effects can only be done once every 30 minutes.
  • Basic = Refreshed timer (Reset to 1 hour)
  • Minor = 1 Hour extension
  • Normal = 6 Hour extension
  • Strenuous = 36 Hour extension

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Average. Neither super fit nor flabby. Constantly disheveled. May give the impression she gets clothes when she can and doesn’t particularly care if they go together or not. Slightly frumpy as a result. Consistently in her father’s tattered University coat from back in Montana.

Personal history

Clyde and Vivienne Suha had that quintessential Minnesota upbringing, which consisted of honeyed words and quote unquote “salads” that had way too much Jell-O. Zara’s anxiety issues were manageable, back then— she had a highly supportive family and a strong burgeoning interest in electrical engineering, even if she wanted to spit in the face of programming as a concept. Her future was bright! All the instability of the Ragnarok era pushed Clyde and Vivienne to provide and protect. If anything, they sheltered their daughter, and Zara, who was never really that great with people to begin with, was okay with this arrangement.   Teenagers also tend to be argumentative, and so in a characteristic sixteen year-old fashion she had a spat with parents, and felt herself get really heated. College was being discussed, and while Zara’s stellar grades and extracurriculars could probably land her at one of the Ivies, finances were coming up as a question. Clyde and Vivienne were that perfect flavor of middle class that really lent itself to skyrocketing expenses and not enough savings to compensate. A few words that shouldn’t have been said were thrown around, something-something about “not forgetting where she came from” and mindfulness. This seemed awfully high and mighty to Zara, and in bitter vitriol she told her parents that “they may as well forget she’s ever existed if she’s nothing without them.”   And they did, even if the part at the end wasn’t really true. The spark of recognition in their eyes instantly died, the two of them shook their heads, slightly dazed, and methodically set about their day, leaving Zara aghast. She went to school as though nothing happened, a twinge of concern blooming but something she shoved down with Calculus and shop class. Upon coming home, the treatment continued. She pleaded, begged, screamed for acknowledgement, and Clyde and Vivienne continued on, blissfully unaware of the agonized presence in their house. At breakfast, she’d ignore the duo of place settings and grip her father’s shoulder, begging for him to see her and remember. Her mother effortlessly managed to not see the third face in every family photo— “this one of us is so cute, Clyde! We have to go back to Hawaii again as a couple.” It went beyond ignorance. It was as though she’d never existed, her bedroom in disarray just another feature of the house, no more notable than a crawl space. She lived as a stranger in the house for months until the questions, pressure and anxiety grew, and fled to the east coast for the sake of her own dying sanity.   Totally destitute, she discovered that no matter how many eyes she felt were staring, she could simply avoid being perceived, no more than a background thought. She’d sit in on Harvard and MIT lectures without a word being said about who she was. When she was hungry, she’d swipe a burrito from a street taco stand and quell any indignation with a plea to just “forget about it.” Her second power manifested around this time, something she found deeply ironic considering her other foremost ability. Eventually, she began to lean into this, and realizing the danger she was in simply for existing, no, surviving, migrated from tech hub Boston to New Victoria.
