Lavrentia = Ancestry DNA for Evos

Summer 2021, Week 4, Tuesday morning

Royal Metro Library, Old Towne

Sorin Fionn

Having committed the entirety of the books he checked out to memory (thank the lucky stars for eidetic memory), he brings them to the front counter, striking up a short bit of small talk before confirming Lavrentia/Lavrentis was working today. Winking and bidding them "Goodbye fer now", he quickly ascends the stairs, the nerves in his legs tingling from the adopted muscle memory from watching step aerobics, seemingly even faster than should be normal, for some reason.   Making his way around, scanning the area for the librarian and spinning a relatively fresh pack of cards in his fingers, he spots them assisting another person in finding the books they needed. He smiles wide and continues knucklng and twirling the pack in his fingers quietly, patiently waiting for his turn to speak to his librarian friend.

Lavrentia

It is Lavrentia today, and they are getting slowly overwhelmed. The last weekend with all that had happened at the warehouses, as well as the streets - a lot of people realised they had powers, and a lot of them were coming to one of the few places in the city that wouldn't judge them. But they (the librarian) were always kind and gave as many calming words as they could to ease the stresses of finding out you have powers.
[No active powers, but many patrons and exhaustion from the tasks of helping for the last few hours makes Interactor, normal x1, -1EP, 14/15]
They look up and see Sorin, and a grin appears on their face. They have a few more people to help but once the people are sorted, the librarian walks over to him. "Sorin! Hey!"

Sorin Fionn

Taking note of how they are dressed today, a fairly feminine look this time, he makes an educated guess that he should refer to them as Lavrentia today. His smile becomes even bigger seeing they are excited to see him, and happily greets then with, "Hello, m'friend! Quite th' hectic scene 'round th' city, eh? Glad ta see people are willin' ta educate themselves, though."   He glances around, taking note of the several people in various sections of the evos section of the library, many browsing for specific titles, others conversing quietly among themselves. "I take it you've been very busy with a lot more people comin' out of th' woodwork, aye?"

Lavrentia

"Yes, its unfortunate with what happened over the weekend, but it's nice some evolved people are helping to repair the city from the damage." They give a sad smile, before perking up. "Work has been busy, yes, both the use of the room and the use of the, well, me. But it's helped me to link others of similar abilities so people who might not have known before can get the help they need."

Sorin Fionn

His expression becomes clouded with concern for the events that happened after the weekend, but then brighten back up with the news of people getting the reference and resources they need to better understand themselves "That's great! I think that's a big step in makin' th' world a safer place." I'm curious if they found someone with somethin' similar to what I've got.. "I don't think I ever really got around ta askin', what is it that.. you're able ta do? If you've got th' time ta tell, of course." He tilts his head slightly to the left, genuinely curious.

Lavrentia

"I have a few. One is being more developed, a pather ability, sensing emotions. The other is the one I've practiced more. I have an ability to tell what your ability is. And also how genetic it can be. Right now, I can only tell grandparents, but I can make a distinction for folks who grew up with a family not their blood."

Sorin Fionn

Grinning wide, he raises an eyebrow quizzically. "Really? That's fascinating! Then I suppose ye already know what I'm capable of, aye?" He says with a wink, though the mask of exuberant positivity gives way to a small hint of doubt and sadness if Lavrentia looked closely enough. "I'm sure ye've prob'ly seen a few people like me, then?" He laughs a bit, trying to stay a bit quieter. "Not ta mention my magician's secret is out."

Lavrentia

"I have to focus on you, which I've only done minimally - I do like to keep other's privacy after all." They smile. "Not to mention, it's easier with physical contact, like a direct focus on you and if you're willing, your family. There's been one or two, but I haven't gotten their contact information. If they come back I can request it for you? But this is not a guaranteed thing, it's voluntary on both your part and theirs." They then laugh. "Such a shame about the magic, but it's a good thing this librarian can keep their secrets!"

Sorin Fionn

"Absolutely! And-" he quiets himself a little bit more "-thank ye fer keepin' th' secret. If it helps, I'll leave my info fer ya. And maybe a better look is in order, aye?" He stops spinning the pack of cards in his right hand, and with one fluid motion flips it with enough force to leave his right hand, allowing it to spin in the air above his head and catching it in his left behind his back as he reaches out with his right hand for Lavrentis to touch, silently thanking the lucky stars that the pack landed where it should.

Their eyes widen and a look of fun and excitement appears on their face. "Your information would be lovely. It will be me or Dave who reaches out to you regarding other evos." They look surprised at the two sets of families, but shrug it off. They themselves had 5 parents, and could be no judge of the past that brought Sorin to them. Or any of the other patrons. "Interesting power, for sure. If people come back, or new folks come in, I'll hook them up with your information." They smile.

Sorin Fionn

He happily gives them his phone number, adding "Happy ta help!" as his positive mental disposition becomes more genuine rather than a mask. "Say.. I have a trick I'd like ta show ye, if ye've got th' time." He says, grinning from ear to ear as he presents the pack of cards once more.

Lavrentia

They stick the paper in their pocket, to be added to a secure location for easy access later. They grin. "I always have time for a friend! And, of course, a little magic." They give him a wink. This comment brings some others in the room out of their bubbles of focus, but they are spread around the room.

Sorin Fionn

With an unshakable air of confidence and showmanship, in a single, fluid motion he takes the deck of cards out of their case with one hand, manipulating the case and flicking it to his other hand to tuck in his shirt pocket. "Then I shall not disappoint, ma friend."   He fans the cards out with both hands, in a much wider spread than should be possible with hands alone, allowing the friction of the cards to hold themselves up as they are spread wide. "Pick a card. Any card yer heart so desires!" He states playfully with a wink.

Lavrentia

They take a card, as requested. It is the Queen of Spades, not that he would know...or would he? They were excited to see how the trick panned out.

Sorin Fionn

As they took a look at their cards, he sneakily took a peek of one of the bottoms of the separated packs: a Two of hearts. With a miscevious grin, he offers the other pack for the card to be returned to the deck, placing the pack that held the two of hearts on top so that he could later utilize that card to find Lavrentia's card.   "Now, th' trick uses some of yer own latent magic, so what I'll have ye do is make as many single cuts as you'd like. Any number atall. Jus' like this-" He demonstrates by taking the deck and taking a portion of it from the top, placing it on the bottom before offering the entire pack to Lavrentia with a friendly wink.

Sorin Fionn

After they cut the deck twice as shown, they returned the pack to Sorin. Grinning wide, he says, "I'm going ta find ma friends, th' red twos. I think they can find yer card fer me." Flipping through the cards with lightning fast and dexterous skill, he finds the first red two, the two of diamonds, then the two of hearts. He makes a note of which card is Lavrentia's, the Queen of Spades, but makes no show that he hesitated on that card, setting the red twos aside. He pulls the pack together, leaving a nearly imperceptible gap towards the back of the deck, allowing the front of it, the visible side, to seem as if it's completely pulled together. "Jus' fer good measure, I'm gonna give it a shuffle." Winking, he separates the cards at the gap once more with his left hand, the Queen of Spades on the bottom as he faros the card's corners, and in a visually pleasing display allows them to fall from his hand into a fountain shuffle, catching them in his open right hand. He repeats this process in reverse, cutting and faroing the cards so the Queen was on the bottom once more, and allowing the cards to fountain shuffle from his right to his left.

Picking up the red twos, he states dramatically, "Now, I'm gonna count ta three, and when I reach three, your card will be in between th' red twos. One.." He places the Two of Hearts faceup on top of the pack. "Two.." He places the Two of Diamonds faceup on the bottom, beneath the facedown Queen of Spades. "Three!" He smiles mischievously and gives a light chuckle.   "Now I understand, ye may not find it that good of a trick." He slides the Two of diamonds slightly out of the bottom, placing his fingers on the bottom two and the Queen to apply friction to both. "So how's about we get rid of th' extras, aye?" He makes a tossing motion with his hand, using the friction between his fingers, the bottom two cards and the top card to keep them as the remainder cards slide out, caught by a waiting right hand. All that remained in his left was a facedown card in between the red twos.

Lavrentia

They watch and do their best to pay attention. Now that they know some of the power of the man in front of them, they can see that there are just a very few aspects he's still getting right, and they can respect that. Practice makes perfect, even if you can imitate moves on the first try. They watch the fancy shuffling and can't help but let out a happy chuckle, because it is truly something else to watch. They nod at the instruction that the twos are going to be the important factor in getting the trick finished, and watch as he flips the cards between his fingers almost as if it was water, rather than fancy cardboard - or whatever it is playing cards are made of. "Well? Did you get the right card? The excitement is filling me!"

Sorin Fionn

He turns over the small hand of cards, revealing the Queen of Spades in between his red twos. "Iiiiiis this yer card?" He asks playfully with a wink, smiling happily from Lavrentia's reaction and from the amazement of the people watching nearby.

Lavrentia

They grin openly, "it is indeed! Such amazing skill!" There is a smattering of applause from around the room, not because he wasn't cool, but there weren't many people in there, and some were distracted as well. "Is there any other fancy tricks you like to play?"

Sorin Fionn

Chuckling lightly, he nods, answering "Of course! Though a few of 'em are more demonstrations than tricks, like card throwing. But magic tricks are a specialty of mine." His grin widens as his hands fidget with his cards, making flourished cuts like the revolution cut as he adds "Though my real talent lies in music. I plan on using my Saturday night ta play some music at Briar Park."

Lavrentia

"oh! I live near there." They smile. "Sometimes i go out and listen while i read or catch up on some work things that need to be brought home. Have you played there before? Or are you yet too new to the area," they blush slightly, "either if you just moved to New Vic or your band - or solo act - is recently formed, that is."

Sorin Fionn

His eyebrows rise in surprise. "Really? You might have heard my sister an' me playin' there on th' odd occasion. Though I think.." His smile starts to falter, his eyes glancing down and to his left, his hands manipulating the cards in various displays of cardistry. "This will be our last duet fer a while."   He shakes his head slightly, his smile returning to normal and hands less fidgety. "She an' I have been together since we were at St. Marsh's, here in New Vic. An' I've been there fer as long as I can remember."

Lavrentia

"I'm sorry to hear it'll be the last for a while. Is it related to what happened last weekend?" They go to put a hand on his shoulder comfortingly but pause, unsure if they've reached the required friendship level for light physical contact. "You'll just have to make the music extra sweeter then!" They smile encouragingly. "You'll perform together again, I'm sure. Just have fun and keep in contact with her until then."

Sorin Fionn

"Naw, she's leaving ta further her education. Wants ta be an advocate fer people like us, which I couldn't be more proud of her." The melancholic smile on his face confirms that he is very proud of his little sister, even if it means a goodbye for a while between the two.   "Sweet it shall be, m'friend. I think I'll be playin' either ma gurdy or th' viola, maybe both!" He chuckles, melancholy washed away with plans for the coming Saturday.

Lavrentia

"Oh? That's excellent for her. Is she evolved as well?" They ask, excited for their friend to experience something like this. "A hurdy gurdy? Those are amazing instruments! Did you make it yourself or is it something that's been passed down?"

Sorin Fionn

"Naw, she isn't evolved, as far as I know. It might be th' only secret she's kept from me if she was!"   "I made it m'self. T'was a big effort ta learn to make one, let alone play one. Though I'm glad ta say I can play it with my own skill." He winks, as if he just made an inside joke for the librarian.

Lavrentia

"I'm sure, but that means it's more special, i think. You learned it yourself??" They grin and wink, "well, that just means I'll have to come by on Saturday and hear you play, doesnt it?"

Sorin Fionn

"Aye, learned sheet music from th' Father, and taught m'self many instruments after learnin' a bit of th' piano. If ye've got th' time, come by an' we can give ye a show. Certainly not a concert like th' past Friday, mind, but a performance ta remember, fer sure!" Grinning and noticing the few people waiting their turn to speak with Lavrentia, he winks and adds playfully, "I suppose I'd better let ya go an' go back to doing your good work, eh?" I suppose I'd better check out some more books while I'm here, too.

Lavrentia

"I'd love to be there and hear you play. Both you and your sister. Save me a VIP ticket, yes?" They grin. Then they nod. "Yes, I should get back to helping some of these folks." Around them, a small line had formed, about two or three people, but for each of them, as some wanted to see up close and personal the tricks Sorin was trying. "See you this weekend!"

Sorin Fionn

He chuckles lightly, knowing this will be more of a street performance rather than an official venue. He still made sure he took avenues to have permissions if needed, but nothing near as advertised or big as the Octavium. He adds with a wink, "Aye, front row stands. I'll see ya then!" He bows, making a grandiose gesture while taking off his fedora and holding it close to his heart, then replaces it upon his head with a flourish.

Storyteller

After they say their farewells, and Sorin checking out some newer books and quietly conversing with the others that are perusing the library, he makes his exit.
