It’s rare that a Father gets free time. A church takes a small army to run but often the duty is left up to one clergyman. Forcing the man to give all his time and life to the church, but today was a nice exception. Father Callixtus VI not only had free time, but free time where no one needed him to go speak to them, take a confession, or discuss a family member who was lost, or in his more private matters, hunt down a witch who had strayed too close to the light of God and remind them of their places crawling across the sand of this great earth on their stomach like the snakes they are. Though unsurprisingly he spent his free time at work, at least this time he enjoyed this work. The good Father had put on his best, a simple black cassock with his clerical collar. Walking down the street he was all smiles, waving to those who addressed him and clutching his bible close to his chest and murmuring silent prayers, so many sinners... so little time. He was heading towards the grand library of this great city, he had been informed that there was a large section on so-called Evos there, a section full of those in need of being saved. Stopping upon the steps of the library, he straightened his robes a bit and offered a prayer to God above. While his left hand clutched his bible and rosary his right held a large almost oversized suitcase. Many would think the old leather trunk was heavy, but Father Cal thought the burden was light and perfectly fit for him. Walking up the stairs he pushed into the library, heading towards the front desk.Lavrentia
The librarian at the desk looks up, giving one of those typical customer service smiles. "Hello father, how can we help you today?" They ask, setting aside the task they were doing to give him full attention.Father Cal
“Yes, I would like to see the section on known Evos? I believe that is what I read online.” He spoke calmly, the slightest hint of a smile paced on his lips. A friendly look, a loving look. Stepping up to the desk he set his wrapped bible down on top of it and tiled his head a small bit addressing the librarian properly. “And of course, some history of this great city, sadly I seek discussion on its tragedy. I only recently taken up guidance of this parish and know little of its history.” The father seemed to stare right ahead as he spoke, not letting his eyes wander even in the slightest. Ignoring all the passersby that walked around them. To him only two were in this world right this moment and he demanded his counterparts' full attention.Lavrentia
"Welcome to the area! Once you have the materials you want to take home, we can set you up with a library card." They smile. "This floor, to my right, has local history of New Victoria. How it started, famous folks, and a shelve dedicated to the darker parts of its history - every town has one." They pause. "On the third floor, the head librarian is up there, they are monitoring the Evo room. They are a great source of information! Both for the town and for the Evo history."Father Cal
”Of course, I will send a list to you of the books I need checked out to the church” Learning where he needed to head, Father Cal broke his gaze. Turning upwards towards the stairs he gave a curt nod and left, leaving his bible sitting upon the counter. He would return for it later but wouldn’t turn back if called. A tight grip on the case at his side, he began to slowly ascend the stairs. Ignoring the second floor he headed right to the third. Looking for the head librarian to guide him.Lavrentia
They are sitting in a comfortable looking chair, doing some head librarian paperwork that comes with the job, for the most part using pen and paper rather than a more modern computer or laptop. They look up at the newcomer in the room and give a smile, "Welcome," they say.Father Cal
Cal Turned at the sound of the voice, having let his eyes and mind wander through the ageless tomes that occupy this space. So much knowledge so little time. With a smile and a light tilt of his head he walked over towards the head librarian seeing as he was the one who could most likely help him. "Ah, Good morning, dear librarian, I am Father Cal, I believe you can help me?”Lavrentia
"Hello, I am feeling like Lavrentia today. Pleased to make your acquaintance, father. What can I do to help?" They say, politely setting aside their aforementioned paperwork.Father Cal
"Yes, I am seeking as much information on Evos as possible… In Rome, there aren't very many so it’s a bit off suddenly having a library full of them" He spoke calmly staring towards the odd librarian.Lavrentia
They nod in understanding. "The last 40 or so years have been really bad rep for Evos, what with Ragnarok and the fear mongering that came after. Some are still a bit shy in admitting they are evolved, some refuse to believe it, and yet others still are taking pride in who they are in this city." They smile at him. "You've come to the right place. Every day we get more and more accounts of Evos, from even before the second world war though those are quite rare, as they were often kept under wraps."Father Cal
The young Father gave a small nod and set his suitcase down right by the doorframe of the room. Idly looking over the shelves and across the isles of the room "I see, yes, to say they have a bad rep is… an understatement, yet all are welcome in his light. And all can serve if they are willing, he will forgive them." The Father smiled. He was thinking of the many he had shown forgiveness hoping they would be walking once more with God. “To help guide them to their penance and forgiveness I need to know as much as I can on them.”Lavrentia
"As long as you understand not everyone may be wanting your teaching. As with the LGBT community, the church as a whole has been rather against evolved humans. Some priests, as you seem to be, are kinder and more understanding of the situation. But it will never hurt for you to understand where evolved humans come from, and how they have existed in our society." They smile.Father Cal
“Of course, I am not here to spread prejudice or injustice. The great Father above has shown us mercy, and we must pass his teaching onto everyone who seeks it… I merely wish to know how best help them.” His back was turned as he spoke. He knew better than to look at someone when he lied, or rather, bent the truth. Justice would come for those who walked the path away from God above after all.Lavrentia
They nod. They have a healthy disconnect from religion, but library training has heavily reinforced the ideas that anyone can check out any book for any reason, and they have no reason to distrust the man in front of them right now. So, they explain the library system to them. "Well, each shelf or set of shelves you see here is dedicated to one branch of evolution for humans. Some have more, such as individual powers, because they are broader, but all have a history section as well as more of a self-instruction section. Of course, everyone has different needs at different times." They pause, letting the information seep in. "As you're new to the city, it is unlikely you have a card. If you could write down your name and address and tell me your preferred colour on the Roy G Biv colour section, we can get that squared away while you look for your materials. No late fees, but definitely damage fees. We do prefer you return books in 28 days however," they smile. "Need any more help? Or do you have what you need to start exploring? Oh! And 10 book, 3 DVD limit for items, films needing to be returned in two weeks."Father Cal
“Of course, of course.” Cal said with a small smile before heading down the aisle. He was hoping for a full-on registry of those who needed penance, but it seemed unlikely to get that here. But it was a start. He looked and found a few books on different common powers of Evos… Good things to know. For the first step of hunting a predator was to know its strength and weakness.Lavrentia
They nod and get back to their work, taking the colour asked and phoning down to the main desk to get things set up.Father Cal
Father Cal reached a book on Ragnarok. He frowned, lifting the book upwards and reading the title. It was odd, as he opened it and flipped through the pages, skimming the words… A madman who almost destroyed the world… This only furthered his own agenda. Sliding it under his arm he moved down the shelves grabbing a few more. “Tell me dear friend. Do you have any text on the churches in this city? I haven’t found a single one on an Evo run church.”Lavrentia
"Not on religion and Evolved humans, no. But downstairs there is a small subsection of the history section on some of the beautiful cathedrals and other historical buildings our city has to offer."Father Cal
He gave a small nod looking to the side. “Of course, the hunt is not that easy.” He grabbed a few other books he found based around different powers and such before walking back towards the head librarian. “I see, then just these for now. It isn't much but will help better guide my flock away from the wolves of this city and towards the good shepherd.”Lavrentia
They just smile and nod. "The librarian downstairs can help you with the rest of what you need, have a good day, father."Father Cal
The good Father gave a small nod and a smile before turning. This, while not a waste, wasn't quite what he had hoped for. Grabbing his suitcase, he walked back down towards the front desk setting the books upon the desk with a smile. Hopefully next to his bible that he had set there. “These are all my good friend. A green card please.”Lavrentia
The librarian on duty at the desk had simply moved it to the side, figuring the priest would come back to collect it once he was done with his work. They smile and finish the information necessary for the card, scan a nice fresh green one, and scan the books. "28 days, father, before they need to be returned."Father Cal
“Of course, the church will return them on time. Don't fret." The good Father gave a small curt nod before grabbing his bible off the counter. Sliding it under his arm with the rest of the books he grabbed her headed out the door and towards the street beyond.
