Aries Eat Like Trash

Summer 2021, Week 3

Tuesday midday

St. Maria's University, City Centre

Isaac Crysentine

Noon struck on Isaac's phone as he stood in line of the Student Cafe at Nolan Dining Hall. His classes were done for the day, and thankfully the Dining Hall was pretty empty save for one girl who happened to be behind him. Isaac wasn't initially paying much attention to her, and instead focused on the menu in front of him. Pasta, garlic bread, sandwiches, pizza.... I could also get a McChicken from Don's, but I think I have to eat just a little healthier. Pasta will do. Taking one more glance at the girl behind him, Isaac walked up to the cashier student person and said "Hello there, I'd like a Pasta Fettucine Alfredo with a large Sprite please? Thank you!" The student simply nodded, as everyone on campus was awkward in one way or another, and stood on the side, sort of listening to what the girl would order as he had nothing else to do besides scroll through Reddit on his phone.

Satsuka Nishiyama

Satsuka was the girl that unfortunately happened to be behind him in line and it was obvious that she did not appreciate his little fucking glances to her every now and then. She furrowed her brow and a frown sat pretty on her lips, making certain to level a glare at the back of his head when he wasn’t looking. Do I have something on my face or something? What was with this guy? Oh god, he didn’t have a thing for Asians, did he? A bit self-conscious, she stepped forward when it was her turn and looked at her options, weighing which would be most beneficial for her and her body. “Uh, I’ll take the grilled chicken caesar salad and a bottle of water.” It was a light meal, sure, but the food options here were kinda shit. She’d make certain to have a more substantial dinner later in the evening. It wouldn’t take long for her food to be prepared, but she still would have to wait. Even for a few minutes. She took a spot next the guy scrolling through Reddit, trying to be discreet in looking at his phone. She wasn't.

Isaac Crysentine

Seriously? She's looking at my phone now? It was only when a meme concerning engineering that came up that he decided it was time to stop showing this much of his private life and humor and just speak up. "Hi, my name's Isaac!" He held his hand out, feeling awkward but also deciding to just break the silence and slight tension that he felt had developed. "What's your name?"

Satsuka Nishiyama

Perhaps if she understood engineering memes, she’d have found it hilarious, but she didn’t, and it wasn’t. Grey eyes looked down to his offered hand and for a moment she thought about just letting him stand there like an idiot with his hand out. Satsuka wasn’t that cruel and with a bit of reluctance, she decided to return the greeting in the form of a fist bump. “Satsuka. Are you always this friendly or super desperate?”

Isaac Crysentine

His eyes squinted slightly at her, wondering whether this was some crude remark or a genuine insult. “When you’re the only person in the entirety of the Dining Hall on a Tuesday afternoon, when it’s usually just me, and you’re looking at my phone, I think it was probably better for me to just say hello.” Isaac let the comment sink in for a second. “So, what’re you studying here?” Change the subject, quick.

Satsuka Nishiyama

An annoyed huff was given at being called out for peeking at his phone, but she didn’t walk away from the conversation. Not yet at least. Maybe she was the desperate one. Satsuka stared at him for a second and then begrudgingly answered. “Kinesiology. With a focus on exercise physiology. You?”

Isaac Crysentine

”Kinesiology is pretty cool! I have a few friends studying in that. I’m studying Chemical Engineering, with a focus on renewable fuels.” He temporarily walked over to pick up his pasta and his Sprite, god he loved Sprite, and sort of felt awkward since he didn’t know if he should wait with this rando girl or just walk away. So he just stood there, grabbing napkins to kill the time.

Satsuka Nishiyama

“Interesting.” She had to bite her tongue to stop from commenting about him having friends at all. Satsuka knew full well she came across as brusque and impatient and she was trying very hard to fix it. Thank you, Grandfather. “You eat like trash.” Okay, well -- maybe she could have tried a bit harder. Clearing her throat, she grabbed her own healthy meal and awkwardly moved over to where he was and grabbed a few napkins and some cutlery. “Ugh. I mean...fuck it. Never mind.”

Isaac Crysentine

What in the world is this situation. Isaac grabbed a fork and a spoon and started to meander off awkwardly toward the Dining Hall exit. I think I'll just eat somewhere else. "Well, uh, thank you? I guess. I need a lot of calories for what I do, and carbs are easy to come by with pasta and Sprite. Plus, pasta alfredo is really good." He gave a shy smile and held up his drink out of respect. She's kind of rude... but that's alright, I guess. "Maybe I'll see you around?"

Satsuka Nishiyama

“For what you do? As ... a chemical engineering student?” A steady gaze swept his lean and lanky form as she checked him out. Twice. He isn’t lifting weights. Maybe a dancer? No, they’re super restrictive with their diets. “Well you’re still alive, so I guess that counts for... something? Good luck with that.” She wasn’t planning on eating in the dining area, but she didn’t want to follow behind him like some kind of weird ass stalker. Instead, she’d stand there uncomfortably and fiddle with her water bottle while she waited for him to leave first. Did he want to see her around? Probably not.

Isaac Crysentine

"I have... an internship outside of school. It requires a lot of physical exertion." Isaac left it at that and started to walk out of the Hall. "And thanks! Good luck with your degree too, and, uh, anything else you're doing I guess." With a final awkward wave, Isaac breathed a size a relief as he felt the warm sunshine down on him. Jeez, she's rude. Honestly kind of hope I don't run into her again. As he started walking down the street, he still kept wondering. I wonder what Mr. Akira has for dinner tonight, and what he'll teach me?
