Alexander had a mostly carefree life, at least until his high school days. Trip off a bridge, and voilà! You discover something new! Anyhow, at first, it was like any other high school story; Wanted to use powers to cheat, parents caught him, etc. Though his dad didn’t want him to use his powers at all, his mom knew it would always be a part of him. So when dad went to work on the weekends, she’d practice with him. Making a portal to grab something from the kitchen here, hand her toilet paper there. Simple goals to practice with. Well, dad ended up coming home early and was furious with the two. He’d scorned them for practicing behind his back, after having said no to the whole idea. His mother tried to explain herself, but as you’d imagine, he couldn’t bother to hear any of it. “You lied to me!”, he’d shout at the both of them. That was always something to remember, especially since mom saw the lipstick on his pants right after that. That was the night that the 17-year-old ‘Xander Ornstein got a taste of what truth really was. Throughout high school, into college, things continued to spike his attention. The drama between his peers, little secrets they’d keep, all became an interest to him. The only time he ever said anything about it, was when he’d caught an encounter between the gym teacher and a student from the other side of a wall. Of course, he lied about how he found out; He said that he peeked through the window, but the gym teacher swore up and down that the window was closed, not that it mattered after the police looked through his phone. He went into Criminal Justice, got his degree, and started working out in the Columbus district. A now 22-year-old Detective Ornstein was a new face around the offices, with most officers seeming rather stand-offish with new people. It was a little bit of a hassle, but he’d get his job done. Sometimes a lucky break would come through and he’d find himself with something a suspect could’ve sworn was locked in their glove compartment in the car, or perhaps a key that could’ve been seen from the doorway of a suspect’s house. Nobody seemed to mind, until ‘Xander noticed a few hand-offs between a few officers. After he mentioned something about it to one of the higher-ups, people started to give him stares and began to look into his old cases; Like the one about the accountant’s money laundering, how’d he get his money book?? Questions like that began to pile on, but the Chief offered him a ticket to New Victoria. Its more recent Evo Initiative was something that Ornstein had heard of, but wasn’t interested, until now. The Chief still had some phone numbers in the area, and it didn’t take the man who watched the rise and fall of Evo’s to figure out what the detective really was. So with that, ‘Xander Ornstein was heading to New Victoria. At least he wouldn’t have to hide what he was, but hey, nothings fun without a little mystery.
