Nightplants

"It is claimed by sages of old that nightplants do not need sunlight for their growth, and that is why they can grow anywhere in the world. But recent studies have proved that nightplants actually need sunlight. They just have very intriguing mechanism in which they produce all the sunlight dependant products in one day and then they lay dormant for the rest of the year. A nightplant could grow almost a 4 feet in one Beacon, but then look like dead for whole year. Interesting, is it not? I can't wait till we can start more advanced studies on their properties."

    Anatomy

Nightplants are a widely different family of plants. Their combining factor is their ability to survive in places with no lightstones making them struggle for 349 days a year without a outside energy source. Most of them are herbaceous, but few more treelike species are also known. They are also very cold resistant plants, some are known to grow in the middle of icy tundras or even in the snow covered mountains.

    Growth Rate & Stages

Nightplants are very strict in their growth. They have sunlight for only one day a year, so they have to use that as much as they can. The largest nightplants have been known to grow almost four feet in one day, and even the smallest of plants grow couple inches during the Beacon.

    Ecology and Habitats

For their survival nightplants need much resources from the soil. That is why they are most often found in areas with lots of minerals in the ground. They also need much space for their roots to be able to gather all the mandatory minerals, so they never grow close to each other.

    Biological Cycle

The biological cycle of the nightplants are strictly tied to a passing of the year. The Beacon is the most important day for them, there they use all their resources to grow and store the energy of the sun. After the Beacon the plants shed all their leaves, flowers and fruits in order to reserve as much energy as possible during the dark year. During year they slowly collect needed minerals form soil in order to prepare for coming Beacon. In the Darkening they start to produce new leaves and flowers from their reserve to be ready when sun rises.
