The Spear

The Spear is an island located off the coast of Dark Isle. It is well known for housing several barbarian tribes. It is a plains dominant region, with a thick bog on the southern end near their only port city, Spearhead. The Spear, as a part of the Empire, enjoys the protection of the local branch of the Imperial Legion (Legion number 24). The many tribes of the spear are multiracial, as several "primitive" tribes have been relocated here in the past. Under the rule of the Empire, these tribes have grown strong, with their own internal power struggles being a mere setback.

Structure

The Tribes of the Spear are technically ruled over by the 'ruling clan', which in turn reports to King Daxos of Dark Isle. In practice, each of the tribes rules itself, and Dark Isle rarely involves itself in the affairs of The Spear. Any dictates The Empire or Daxos give that affect the Spear are left to the ruling clan to administer. The current ruling tribe is the Clan of the Great Bear.
The tribe in charge is determined solely by ownership of an artifact called the Wise Man's Helm, an ancient headdress that the tribes frequently try to steal from one another. The Great Bear has held the helm for the last hundred years.

Religion

The warrior people of this island have developed a near unique religion revolving around Randeus, God of Warriors. Other favored deities include Eldreon, god of magic, Tilanos, god of craftsmen, and The Seasonal, god of time. The locals believe that Randeus judges their very souls based on deeds of bravery, and as such have developed several special rituals to gain favor with him. This ritualistic aspect of the culture of The Spear can be seen in all of their festivals, marriages, and even naming ceremonies. The most common form of worship is the ritual dance, which tells a story. There are several dances for different occasions, and are almost always performed in front of the village and a great fire. To worship other gods, such as Eldreon, locals will often burn offerings or leave a candle anointed with blessed oils. It is common to pray to Rendeus for strength and the Seasonal for long life. Locals are also superstitious, and will burn a candle offering to Attinae, god of monsters, to protect their village from the very evil she embodies. Worship of The Dreaded One and KuQala are forbidden entirely, with followers of these dread gods being sentenced to death by clubbing, and in the case of The Dreaded One, the corpse is torn apart and burned in small piles to prevent the soul from escaping.
