Steelwood
The Singing Islands are home to Steelwood trees. The trees are harvested by pulling them down with teams of strong beasts, as they cannot be cut down with ordinary materials. The wood acts in a manner similar to iron, and is able to be melted and reshaped in a forge. It is largely inefficient to manufacture compared to steel, but trade flourishes thanks to some religious groups having taboos against the wearing of metal armor. While expensive and difficult to harvest, Steelwood has a significant advantage over traditional iron: it is significantly lighter, making it a popular material for armored vehicles, especially heavy tanks and armored airships.

Material Characteristics
The finished material looks like a polished wood finish.
Geology & Geography
Steelwood trees only grow on the Singing Islands between Illiria and Ter Eira.
History & Usage
Everyday use
Steelwood is almost exclusively used as material for heavy armor.
Cultural Significance and Usage
Because Druids are religiously barred from wearing metal, some warrior priests of the Twin Faith have founded holy orders of warriors trained in fighting while in heavy armor, be it stone or Steelwood. Before the exportation of the trees to the mainland, however, Steelwood was used to make tentpoles and religious paraphernalia for the peoples of the Singing Islands.
