Meatshroom
Meatshrooms are a green and black fungus native to The Darkwood. They only grow in complete darkness and for some reason only when at least twenty feet beneath the surface. They grow to the size of oxen, and taste similar. That and the fact that the strange mushrooms bleed when cut gives them their name. Easy to grow and harvest, meatshrooms are a popular beef substitute among the poorer classes or those who have forsaken meat for religious reasons.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Meatshrooms grow in a dome shape and are covered in a lattice of white filaments that slowly move over the ground to absorb nutrients, and provide locomotion when needed.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Meatshrooms will decompose and absorb almost anything, including biological waste and corpses. This makes them essential for large cities that cannot install proper sewers. The presence of live prey caught in their filaments makes them grow faster.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Meatshrooms seem to have some sort of perception, as they move themselves when in immediate danger or when resources are scarce. It is unknown what exactly this sense is.
