Flame Grub Meal

A Flame Grub Meal is a rite of passage among the students of the Faro Culinary Academy within the Kardeesa Duchy.   It is not one singular dish, but requires the use the infamous Flame Grub as a main ingredient. Flame grubs are an insectoid species found within dark caverns beneath the earth near volcanic activity and are notoriously difficult to work with for meals as their bodies produce an inherent heat that puts the hottest of peppers to shame. An inexperienced cook using such grubs can easily ruin a dish as it will overwhelm all other attempts at flavouring that produces a bad experience at the dinner table and later in the privy.   Given the difficulty of using the grubs, the Faro Culinary Academy began the tradition of instructing their students to prepare a dish using them as the final test in their 10 year apprenticeship. A student must craft a dish of their choosing using the flame grub as the main ingredient using everything they have learned over their decade of learning to not let the grub's natural heat overwhelm their meal.   As difficult as the task is, most students succeed generally by using tried and true methods developed by previous students who have taken the test. New takes on the meals are often times spread out among the various restaurants within Faro and the other larger cities within the Duchy. Success or failure is not treated so binary with the test, but instead reflects the immediate Chef rank they are granted upon graduation.   Upon completion of the test all the participants who took part, apprentices and judges both, feast upon the meals provided and compliment and critique each other's dishes with the creator of a dish being the first to take the first bite and offer their own opinions on what they did well and not.
