Player Guide

Welcome Adventurers!

This document is to introduce you to both the campaign and the house rules. If you have any questions or problems with any of these rules, please ask/tell your DM.

Player Safety and Consent

Everyone feeling safe and secure at the table is always the number 1 priority. If there are ANY subjects, themes, scenarios, etc. that you do not want in the campaign, please mention them.

Please be courteous to all other players at the table; if you sense someone is uncomfortable please reach out to your DM so they can solve the problem ASAP.

Please show up to games on time, showing respect for everyone else's time is important. If you can not show up to the game on time please private message your DM ASAP so they can make preparations for being short a player, or moving the game to a different time/day.

Do not speak over each other unless doing so in RP. Interruptions of someone else's actions or dialogue can be an important factor in the scene at hand, when doing so please say something along the lines of "Do you mind if I interrupt you during this?" This is best done before an action occurs or during a small pause. The DM carries the final say in all interruptions or contested actions.

Game and Rule Adjustments

These rules serve 2 main purposes:

1: To change the pacing of the game to better match the pace that I want out of the story
2: To encourage critical thinking among players and bring recourse scarcity into the foreground

"Out of thin air"
Spells that create essentials such as food or water are not allowed. "Good Berry" and "Create Food and Water" are two examples of this, but this rule expands to all spells with such effects.

"Real Darkness"
All non-magical versions of "Darkvision" are now "Low-Light Vision". As long as there is a small amount of light your vision is normal but in the total absence of light, you are unable to see.

"Hardcore Resting"
Short Rest: 8 Hours - 6 hours of sleep + 2 hours of light activity
Long Rest: 3-5 Days - Must be in a safe location
-Note: Half spell slots will be regained on Short Rest for caster classes.

"A Helping Hand"
You can only use the help action for checks you have proficiency in.
Instead of providing advantage, the helper rolls 1d6+Proficiency mod to add to the check.

"Stacking Advantage"
If you have multiple forms of advantage, each type beyond the first adds +2 to your dice roll. For example: If you are flanking an enemy and hidden you gain advantage and an extra +2 modifier.
If there are multiple flanking attackers, each flank beyond the 1st adds a +2 as well.

"More Crits, More Fun"
Multiple changes to crits to make them both more frequent and more impactful.

-Rolling a natural 1 on spell saves will be a critical hit. A natural 1 on non-damage spells imposes an automatic fail on their next check against that spell.
-When an attack or spell critically strikes, the creature may choose between dealing maximum damage or doubling all damage after all calculations are complete.
For example: On a 1d8+2 attack you may choose either 10 guaranteed damage or roll for a maximum of 20 and a minimum of 6.

"Drinking and Fighting"
You have a few options when drinking healing potions in combat:

-Drink a healing potion with a bonus action and roll healing as normal

-Drink a healing potion with an action and get maximum healing from the potion
(Drinking a healing potion outside of combat will always give maximum healing)

"Not Dead Yet"
A few changes to make combat dangerous, even when you aren't dying:

-The DM will roll all death saving throws, and not share the outcome. Players will not know how many turns pass before someone is either stable or dies.

-Taking damage that exceeds half of your hitpoint maximum will leave you with a lingering injury. This can be anywhere from a lost limb to deep laceration.

-When you become stable after going down, you still stay unconscious for 1d4+1 hours. Forcing someone awake from this will cause them to take 2 points of exhaustion unless done via a restoration spell.

Reputation System

The party will have a shared "Reputation" stat. This stat will have checks rolled by the DM that decide how far the tales of your adventures have spread. This stat is not indicative of being viewed positively or negatively.

For example:
Normal Farmer: 0 (-5)
World-Saving Hero: 20 (+5)
Feared Necromancer: 18 (+4)

Your reputation stat will waver throughout the campaign. Any large actions will change it, and it may fade over time if you do not continue to grow your reputation for a long time. A higher reputation stat isn't always a good thing, so make sure your party agrees on how high or low profile you want your escapades to be. Be sure to be creative with this! You could pay bards to sing songs of you to increase your reputation or bribe news outlets to not put your name on your most recent mistake.

Character Creation

Almost all official content is allowed. The DM must approve all homebrew. If you wish to make something custom for the campaign, please run the idea past your DM.

Starting Equipment:
Character Level: Equipment:
1st - 4th Normal Starting Gear, 250gp, and 1 Uncommon or 2 Common Magic Items
5th-8th 450 + (1d4*50)gp, 1 Rare or 2 Uncommon Magic Items
9th-14th 1,000 + (1d4*150)gp, 1 Rare and 2 Uncommon Magic Items
15th-18th 4,000 + (1d4*350)gp, 1 Very Rare, 1 Rare, and 1 Uncommon Magic Items
18th-20th 8,000 + (1d4*350)gp, 1 Legendary and 2 Rare Magic Items

Stat Creation:
Our stat creation will be a mix of rolling and point buy. Roll your normal 6 stats by rolling 4d6 and dropping the lowest die. Now add up all of these final numbers, and subtract your total number from 76. Whatever you have left over you can spend into your 6 stats however you wish, as long as you do not end (After racial bonuses) with anything over 18(+4).
This system is a work in progress, and is subject to change. (I will also write it in a better way, maybe a app coming soon

All content will be shared with you via the DnDBeyond.com campaign, link will be added here when the true campaign is made.
