History
After a couple of years in the city the self appointed 'great artist' (Hieronymus) was contacted by a mysterious man who introduced himself by the name of Klopstock. Klopstock made an unusual commission asking for different kinds of strange symbols to be integrated into several paintings – mostly portraits of different people. Hieronymus found this mystery man intruiging and started to spend more time with him. Klopstock showed De Groot new venues of small underground societies, appealing to the artists growing ambition of moving up in the social hierarchy and becoming a painter of great importance. Some of the gatherings also featured some of the strange symbols Hieronymus recognized from Klopstocks commissions. Over time Klopstock let De Groot know that the symbols were a part of a kind of magic that had mystical potentials.
