History of Ethnis

The Tremulous Era

  • Kyzan Dies and Returns Sovereign: Kyzan became sovereign because he demonstrated such complexity of thought while dying that he marked the beginning of the meta cycle.
  • Kyzan Unites The North
  • Kyzan Attacks The South
  • Kyzan is Usurped
  • Lun Kheren became sovereign because when he and Kyzan fought, kyzan was stabbed through the seal and into lun's brow, transferring the power to him.

This sovereign crown passed down the Haimarchy through this method, though it became customary to bring the previous sovereign back to life after (?)

Bastet did that to herself? Stabbed herself and the sovereign through the head with the dagger of lun kheren? Stole the crown.

    Earth is Colonized

"Well, back when the war ended, the rent came due. Aempis had waged a very expensive campaign against Earth, and they planned to stick us with the bill. We dared to rise up against them as they slowly took over the world

Not really anyone you lot would know because he doesn't feature in any of the current lore, but there's a Ral-Mi—Togue Jadey—who is very important in the timeline during and before the country of Aempis (of the Pact). He took a massive but broken country and unified it (mostly by being a mix of Godfather and Warlord) and, by cutting deals with Aempis, which was at that tiem a prefecture in the Valuser'ran Empire.

Aempis owed a lot of its success to the Jadey family, so when they needed to colonize Earth, they sent in the Jadeys.

Though infighting long ago broke the family (and the Bannercasting and subsequent Wayhall closure scattered them to the winds, you can still find Jadeys in power to this day.

So, when the Vadakendanic Procession (previously known as the Ancient Haimarchy) fell after/from the Sazashi Revolution, the Sazashi leaders cast lots and, by a non unanimous votes and eventually some bloodshed, they decided to divide their lands up by Sazashi Kinds. Because the Kinds had been working mostly with themselves for thousands of years and were all generally happy to just have their own lives with familiar faces without Verin rule overhead.

So they spread the land out by kinds, with the best lands usually just going to whoever happened to have more mean mugs at the initial negotiations. and the Shejlt became the "House of Order" after the old Procession style of rule. Well, House of Order quickly became tyrannical after a few hundred years (and a global plague and lots of border wars) and went pretty Spain over everyone for a while.

This is leading to a point, I promise.

Well, one of the big laws they began to enact is that nobody outside of the Shejlt nation of Valuser'rh was allowed to use magic. Which basically meant that only the Shejlt were allowed to use magic.

A little late but does this imply the alien mob stripped mined all our resources and sold them? Does that mean we had like massive global warming issues, to simply put it.

Soooo when the Aempian prefecture decided to rise up, they needed to build ways of bringing down the Shejlt that didn't require them to practice magic, which they could easily track.

Well this was about when guns were invented, and when wands (the magic equivalent of a gun) made the proverbial jump from black powder to casings. They needed a lot of metal to keep their war machine going, and gemstones. A good wand in the hand of a weak caster could still take down a Valuser'ran knight, so there was hope!

Aempis, with the help of Togue sending metals to Aempis and her allies (the rest of the prefectures who joined in) became its own country. They still used magic, but they used magi-tech now, innovating such things as computer processors and pioneering meta-based chips that blurred the line of having memory and having an actual mechanized spirit inside.

Aempis ruled for a long time, but others began chomping at the bit. To hold onto its growing population and fend off those previous allies who wanted their shot at global dominion (or who were tired of Aempis exploiting them) they needed more metals, more gems.

But Jhoutai's a planet with a lot of coral. Not much land. Getting the materials they needed for an industrial complex wasn't easy.

And then, by what felt like fate, they found Earth.

So many resources! And we'd already gotten it out of the ground, refined it, and made factories that could shape it into anything!

You're damn right Earth wasn't pretty after that. There's a reason why the Somnolent's rage stirred the entire Earth. It wasn't a pain he planted there, just one he woke up.

Get the fuck off our planet

Cause the first country Togue unified was the Mar'rianian Territories. Which is where Artosen the 1st was relocated to by Valuser'rh for trying to overturn the state. So he ran that, badly, for a while, as a sort of Duke, and then died a miserable death, and his son was Artosen the 2nd, who once got the snot beat out of him by Togue, and who now leads the Federation.

    Reclaiming Earth

So if Earth (now Eden) was stripped down, why did we even want it back? Just pure culture stuff?

    — Oneriwien

    Well. We were here.

Earth was... not even dying any more. She was basically dead. The only reason anything was left was because Aempis decided it was too expensive to move those last whatevers off world, so they just left their infrastructure and the last resources behind, discarded. They had better things to do—they had a Haimarchy to panic about.

So Aempis pulled out. And the corporations that were being propped up by them faltered. And they started to do things the old way and the workers revolted, because these weak institutions no longer had the might of the Aempian Tigari army behind them, because the Somnolent woke and screamed at them to rise now, or they would never again get a chance to rise.

So they pushed the corporations away, and the corps retreated to their other bases (on Mars and the moons of Jupiter) but the somnolent regrew earth and as he did he pushed out and pushed them further and further until they were out of the system.

A lot of people left with them, left Earth for dead. But even if hundreds of millions went... so what? There were still billions on earth. Many willful, most trapped to an extent that their will on the matter was irrelevant.

Where were they going to go? Jhoutai? Some did. Traitors.

Or did they want to risk it on the Syndicate's ad-hoc colony ships? Even if you did, did you qualify for their rigorous standards? Could you afford the bribe it took to talk to the people to get put on the right list?

No. You were stuck. So you either made it work, or you died. Or we all died.

    Rebuilding Earth

Earth falls back on its seed libraries and cloning and works to recultivate Earth as it once was as well as possible. It takes several hundred years but eventually it does happen to a degree.
