Rhythmist Gland (rith-mist gland)
A rhythmist gland is an artificially created gland, shaped like a ball, approximately four inches in diameter. It is compartmentalized to hold various substances, customized to the user it will be implanted in, which often contain combat drugs, adrenaline, hormone regulators, pain suppressants, mood stabilizers, and other similar substances.
Non-medical rhythmist glands are mainly reserved for those in military service, and even then typically only given to the most elite of forces, such as special operations units. It is implanted near the base of the spine where it meets the hips, and can be controlled by the user via neural linkups. While this might be expected to open the window for abuse, the gland does not infinitely produce the drugs it contains, and must be refilled manually once depleted. In this way, the substances it contains may still be controlled by a doctor.
A rhythmist gland may also be granted to citizens with health issues such as diabetes, hyper- and hypothyroidism, growth hormone deficiency, hirsuitism, pituitary disorders, and adrenal disorders.
In some exceptional cases, it is also implanted in those with an obesity issue and those with genetic overeating problems - through better regulation and control of the body's hormonal signals regarding cravings and appetite, it can drastically aid in better maintenance of a healthy diet in the longterm. However, this is only used for cases who genuinely struggle to be healthy otherwise due to genetic factors well outside of their control.
