Magic
Magic is performed by harnessing Ether, a force of energy within the universe, and reshaping it to alter the fabric of reality. The amount of Ether harnessed changes the strength of the magic. Most beings in Etherion can not innately harness Ether, but there are many ways in which beings can harness Ether.
How Magic is Obtained
The Guardian and Firstborns
The Guardian and the Firstborns are able to innately harness large amounts of Ether and the Guardian created Ether. The Firstborns are only able to perform magical abilities of their specific shape of magic.
Bestowal by a Firstborn
When a Firstborn chooses an individual to become a Grounded God, they must change that individual's body on a molecular level so they can properly harness Ether and reshape it to alter the fabric of reality. This process can be painful, but is typically less painful if the individual is a creation of that Firstborn. In cases where the individual does not have a physical form, such as the Phantoms, they will not feel this pain and the process is usually much faster. A Firstborn cannot change an individual in a way that they can perform any magic that the Firstborn cannot also perform.
Hereditary Means
If a Grounded God has a child with another being, the child may gain some abilities of that Grounded God. The child's body is innately able to harness Ether, though they may not be immediately aware of their magical abilities and must learn to control them.
Other Means
Someone who wants to gain magic through means other than by a Firstborn may use a conduit, such as Lapis Lazuli, to allow Ether to be harnessed by their body. Methods such as these are detrimental to the wellbeing of the individual and they must be continually redone to continue your magical abilities.
The shape of magic changes depending on the individual, but often their shape of magic is similar to the shape of magic that their creating Firstborn possesses. However, because Revdum, Zidite, and Koara all aid in the creation of souls, an individual's shape of magic may be similar to one of those three.
Ether can also be harnessed in the form of potions, in which specific ingredients harness ether when heated and mixed together using nether wart as a catalyst. These potions can be used immediately or can be stored and used at a later time.
Shapes of Magic
Light
The shape of magic possessed by Xillios, the god of light. In its most basic form, this type of magic uses Ether to create a bright light which banishes all darkness besides that specifically created by Danufram. This light typically doesn't affect things physically, but it can be made into a physical object by using more Ether. Very skilled users of light magic may be able to shape light around them to become invisible. An individual's eyes may also be enchanted with light magic, creating a night vision effect.
Healing
Healing is a subset of Light magic. It is able to use Ether rapidly speed up the healing process of the body. The speed of healing depends on the extent of the injury and the amount of Ether used. For example, a cut on the arm may take a few seconds, but a large slash on the leg may take multiple minutes. Very faint scars are left behind, but depending on the injury, the scars left can be very visible.
External healing magic can stall the worst symptoms of diseases and poisons, but they cannot heal completely. Potions of health, golden apples, and other such healing consumables can heal poisons and diseases. Healing magic cannot restore limbs, however some items such as healing potions and golden apples have been noted to cause individuals to exclaim that they have phantom limbs.
Healing magic has an adverse effect on the undead; instead of healing, it harms them. This is because the undead being does not have a healing process to speed up, so it actually speeds the rotting process.
Freedom
The shape of magic possessed by Thuelli, the goddess of freedom. In its most basic form, this type of magic uses Ether to free that which is being restricted, unless it is actively being restricted by Sjalsvard. This freedom may manifest in a literal freeing of an individual from bounds or it may manifest in an increase in abilities such as switfness and leaping
Wind
Wind is a subset of Freedom magic. It is able to use Ether to control the air around the user. An individual can use wind magic to create gusts of wind in any direction or air pockets which can be ridden or place around an individual to act as a barrier. An individual may also use it to change air currents around them while gliding. Skilled users of wind magic are able to use air to slow their fall.
Life
The shape of magic possessed by Evidansa, the goddess of life. In its most basic form, this type of magic uses Ether to strengthen the life force of an individual that is not actively being weakened by Sjalsvard. This may manifest as more resistant skin, increased strength, reduced hunger, and an increased absorption of damage. In extreme cases, such as when in the presence of Evidansa, this type of magic can cause increased lifespans and sometimes immortality in mortals.
Fire
Fire is a subset of Life magic. It is able to use Ether to rapidly heat up different substances, acting as a fuel source for fire. An individual can use Fire magic to create a residual heat or an intense flame, and skill users can heat rock into lava and obsidian. Some have used Fire magic to alter their skin or other items to be able to withstand high levels of heat.
Death
The shape of magic possessed by Sjalsvard, the god of death. In its most basic form, this type of magic uses Ether to weaken the life force of an individual that is not actively being strengthened by Evidansa. This may manifest as weaker muscles, increased hunger and withering of life force. In extreme cases, such as when in the presence of Sjalsvard, this type of magic can cause decreased lifespans and sometimes immediate death of mortals.
Control
Control is a subset of Death magic. It is able to use Ether to restrict an individual or object that is not actively being freed by Thuelli. This control may manifest in a literal restriction of an individual using bounds or it may manifest as a decrease in abilities such as slowness and fatigue. Some users, such as Phantoms, use Control magic to control undead creatures. Skilled users may be able to control other living creatures using this type of magic.
Animalia
The shape of magic possessed by Revdum, the god of virtue. In its most basic form, this type of magic uses Ether to will animals and other lesser creatures to aid the user, except those being actively controlled by Sjalsvard. This magic acts more as suggestion to them to aid rather than an explicit control. An individual can speak to animals and become friends with them. Skilled users can create temporary animal familiars to aid them.
Water
Water is a subset of Animalia magic. It is able to use Ether to control water and other liquids around the user. An individual can use water magic to create large waves and streams of water in any shape they may desire. Skilled users of water magic are able to breath underwater.
Growth
The shape of magic possessed by Zidite, the goddess of legitimacy. In its most basic form, this type of magic uses Ether to rapidly speed up the growth of plant life and control it. An individual can use this to increase crop growth and control vines. It is very rare for individuals that practice this type of this magic to become skilled in it.
Earth
Earth is a subset of Growth magic. It is able to use Ether to control rocks and minerals in the ground and move them at the user's will. An individual can use this to shape dirt, stone, sand, and similar materials into different objects, rise them out of the ground and throw them to great lengths. Skilled users can control metal.
Monstrosity
The shape of magic possessed by Koara, the goddess of sin. In its most basic form, this type of magic uses Ether to animate corpses and poison living beings. It can be used to infect others with diseases and poisons and create an intense nauseating feeling. Some users, such as Phantoms, can use Monstrosity magic to rise undead creatures from the dead. Other skilled users can create monsters such as Ravagers from the ground.
Cold
Cold is a subset of Monstrosity magic. It is able to use Ether to freeze objects and control ice around the liquid. An individual can use Cold magic to create small and large structures made of ice, provided there is water nearby. Skilled users can control their body temperature, allowing them not to freeze.
Darkness
The shape of magic possessed by Danufram, the god of darkness. In its most basic form, this type of magic uses Ether to create a deep darkness which banishes all light besides that specifically created by Xillios. This darkness typically doesn't affect things physically, but it can be made into a physical object by using more Ether.

Combining Shapes of Magic
Some shapes of magic can be combined to create a new compounded shape, creating effects that are greater than the sum of their parts. These types of magic are typically only used by the Firstborns at great levels, but smaller uses of these compound shapes can be used by mortals.
Lightning

Lightning magic is a compound shape of Light and Fire magic. It is able to use Ether to superheat air into a beam of electricity.
Phantasia
Phantasia magic, also known as Soul magic, is a compound shape of Life and Death magic, and is only used by the Phantoms. It is able to use Ether to create a physical body which matches the shape of the soul. User's can also become invisible or dissolve their physical form entirely, which some effort.
