The Crow’s Challenge

I head up the long spiraling staircase to the top chamber of the tower. And there, after so much teasing by these riddles, I finally encounter the crow.
But they’re not any old crow, this one is large, huge even. Their wings spread across the ceiling, towering over me.
With a booming raspy voice they challenge me:

Prove your worth, for I am the guardian of time’s passage. Conquer your inner fears and face your fate. Only then shall the clock’s power be yours.

I’m definitely not sure about the crow’s motivation. Are they a friend or foe?
