Raptoran

The Raptoran, or the Gaptii in their own language, are a collection of tribes that look similar to the dinosaur clade Maniraptora. They live throughout the lands of Evenea, though only sparsely on Valoreum. They are well known as fun-loving, friendly, and loyal. Raptoran always give their offspring names that they grow into, but try not to use the names of their ancestors, as Raptoran names give them power in the form of an extra affinity of a specific type. By giving them the name of a dead ancestor, it causes them to gain an Undead affinity and summons the spirit of the dead ancestor back into the land of the living.
That being said, as adventurers, Raptoran are what most people think of as adventurers, mainly due to the advantage they gain from being in a group. As long as they remain with their friends, they are formidable. With their strong affinity for Wind magic, the Gaptii are prone to wanderlust, making them some of the most likely to become adventurers.
As far as connections go with other races, Raptoran get along with most of the races where they live in. In the past, they had to carve homes out for themselves in each of the nations they currently live in, but very few hold them in contempt as they have filled niches in their nations that no other race held.

Masculine names

Shalsh (Slash), Jï'an (New Morning), Dül (Crown), Dï'dhü (Ash Crest), Chielåk (Warrior)

Family names

Raptoran Tribes are further broken into clans, often named after what they do. For example, a Shalsh Raptoran clan who specialize in sword wielding may be called the Al'Zahkriil or Slaughterers. See the Raptoran language for more words to use.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

Raptoran speak Gaptiian, and have slight variations in pronunciation depending on the Tribe. It is said to have once been the languange of the Lokians, but over thousands of years has been molded into its modern form.

Culture and cultural heritage

Raptoran are very tribal, as such they don't possess much of a unified culture, but they do possess similarities to many draconic cultures that existed amongst the Diivanne, especially of the Lokians. As such, they share a archaic bond with these beings, and maybe their tribal nature may be part of this bond.

Shared customary codes and values

One thing all Raptoran share is that they never name their children after an ancestor. It is said that a child who is named after an ancestor is haunted by the ancestor they are named after, and gain necromantic powers as the grow.

Average technological level

Most Raptoran live in tribal communities, but know how to use various metals (such as iron, copper, gold, and elementium) and precious gems with efficiency, though such things are often expensive in their tribes. If they manage to kill very strong creatures, they often take parts from them and incorporate them into surprisingly good weapons. They often consider dragon materials to be the best.
When it comes to architecture, they often use wood and stone to build with, with some tribes using adobe, thatch, brick, tile, and other materials.

Common Etiquette rules

Raptoran very seldom care about etiquette, but they do respect their elders. Whoever is eldest amongst a raptoran clan has the right to everything first, and the right to let others go before them.

Common Dress code

Raptoran dress codes vary with the tribe. Muttabar generally wear a lot of light fabrics. Mesal generally wear simple cloths with complex designs. Alte generally wear furs and other heavy materials due to their cold habitats. Aspe generally wear sparse clothing to help them take full advantage of their camoflaging nature. Bould wear whatever they want, as they don't care what they look like. Linhre wear cool clothing due to the desert environs they generally live in. Shalsh generally wear whatever they want, but they are especially drawn to earth tones. Volcane generally wear an assortment of things, like the Bould they don't care about dress codes. Dhasha prefer to wear water-proof clothing to prevent parasites in their swampy home regions.

Art & Architecture

Art and Architecture vary between tribes of Raptoran, but most are... tribal in depiction. Shalsh, Mesal, and Alte Raptoran are the few to advance past a tribal stage of architecture and are often found in cities in their respective regions.

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

The most well known custom of the Raptoran is that they never name their offspring after an ancestor. Raptoran have also been seen communing with the wind in the early hours of the morning, apparently to understand the weather of the day.

Common Myths and Legends

It is said amongst the Raptorans that they are the only race to have descent from the Lokians or Sky Dragons. It is said that 9 dragons were the progenitors of this race. They include Toorstrunven the Firestorm, Maarvenmul the Tornadic, Lokqahzu'u the Mist wielder, Klovenkrii the Sand Devil, Iizdiinshul the Cometous, Qobahaus the Thundrous, Lokkoorkaal the Hallowed, Yolagshul the Meteoric, and Kulkovulon the Auroral. Each founded a different tribe of the Gaptii before Valoreum fell.

Historical figures

It is said the Gaptii came to Eveynjar thousands of years after the fall of Valoreum as they grew too numerous for the lands they lived in. Lead by a Shalsh Raptoran by the name of Shalsh Al'Zahkriil, they braved a mass exodus from their lands across the Dividing Ocean (something no other race had been able to do in 3 millennia) and landed in modern Indeljar along most of the coast. Where Shalsh Al'Zahkriil landed was and still is called First Landing, where a mysterious massive blackblade (a type of very heavy greatsword) continues to mark, still uncovered in rust some 2 thousand years since.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

Raptorans have different ideals for beauty depending on their tribe. Shalsh raptoran find being well groomed and having vibrant colors constitutes beauty while Muttabar raptoran value having lots of jewelry and fine fabrics. See other Raptoran ethnicities for beauty ideals.

Gender Ideals

Males and Females are expected to contribute to their clan first, their tribe second, and their nation last. Females are expected to care for the young, farm, and hunt. Males are expected to guard the clan, protect their love ones, hunt, wage war, and to build up their homes. Those Raptoran that are found wandering the wilds are often either there to do something for their clan, or make life miserable for whoever walks into their path.

Courtship Ideals

Raptoran courtship varies with each tribe and clan.

Relationship Ideals

Raptoran relationships vary with the individual. Just as the wind never blows in the exact same direction, so do Raptoran interact with others. One thing that all Raptoran have in common is a hyperactive nature.
