Session 15 - Kothar and Willow's little problems

General Summary

With the news of a dragon south of Konigsberg, the Hive set out to determine how large of an influence and any threats it might pose to their operations. Kothar, the lizardfolk scout, found a peculiar cave Ryphol's underlings were using and extracting high quality items from. He signaled via comm stone that he was going to investigate further.
After 2 days of not hearing from Kothar, the hive assembled their top team who originally discovered the dragon threat. While primarily a rescue mission for Kothar, they were also tasked with securing the location as a possible forward base of operations against Ryphol.
The team set out and after a day's travel found the unusual hill with a cave in the middle of the swamp. Kylar, Nails, and Willow moved into the first chamber, while Khajit squeezed through a small side tunnel that connected with the entrance. Yog deployed his bag of tricks, giving him a rat companion. The first chamber had a couple Lizardfolk busy working on carving and shaping some bone. Kylar sneaked a bit off to the side, but Nails loosed an arrow a bit early and missed. The two lizardfolks caught Kylar flatfooted, though the team made short work of them, but not before they could warn others of their kind. During this, Khajit (and technically Yog's rat) stumbled upon a few kobolds gathering mushrooms in a side chamber. Taking a gambit, the tabaxi asked the kobolds if they were working against their will. This startled the kobolds, in particular one named Gux who fell on his ass. Sensing the fear in the diminutive creatures, Khajit doubled down and threw his new pact weapon, a magic rapier in an attempt to show them he meant no harm. This gave them pause, but they figured they had a better chance running off to man the traps in the small tunnels than converse with an unarmed 'giant' in an open arena.
Khajit followed Gux and saw him climbing up to a false ceiling. He tried to get closer, but was then met with a snake being dropped from the ceiling, biting him out of instinct. A now frustrated and annoyed tabaxi pokes his head confronting Gux and the other kobold who just dropped the snake on him and summoned his pact weapon to his hand. Frightened the kobold tossed another snake at the feline, while Gux proceeded to have a heart attack and collapsed. As he dealt with the snake and remaining kobold he noticed Gux's chest rising and falling. At about this time another kobold came through the tunnel and attacked him from below and Willow arrived to help out as best she could squeezing through the tunnel. Khajit pinned the possum playing Gux with an immovable rod and then proceeded to deal with the snakes and ankle biting kobold, the latter of which retreated further back in the tunnels.
During all of this, Kylar, Nails and Yog dealt with the other Lizardfolk in the nearby chambers. Their leader and a few of them holed up in one and attempted to advance out but Kylar and Nails quickly dispatched the first one that ventured out. They then retreated opting to make the intruders come to them. Yog, however, crawled through a small tunnel in an adjoining chamber while Nails and Kylar closed in. After a one on one between Yog and the Lizardfolk leader and a skirmish with Nails and Kylar the area was clear of lizardfolk.
Khajit took Gux, who was now crapping himself, back to the first chamber for a little talk, while the rest of group exploring more of the many small tunnels connecting the chambers. Gux reveals that a lizardfolk was discovered in their area and imprisoned but when they checked on him later he was gone. Khajit commanded Gux to take him to this cage.
Willow explored a tunnel and took out 2 kobolds, one of which dropped a barrel of oil that lit on fire. Another kobold further in the tunnel hit her with his sling. Annoyed the elf braved through the fire and took on the kobolds. Unfortunately, more kobolds were waiting and took turns taking pot shots against their target who was unable to move well in the small tunnels. Even calling upon her magic to keep her going, she started to slip in her strikes against the small foes. While she managed to dispatch several of them, they eventually got the best of her. Separated from the group and now helpless she soon bled out ending her life. It will be some time before her corpse is found in the maze of small tunnels, and is likely to be looted by the greedy vermin.
Unaware of what was happening with Willow, Yog smashed his way through the tunnels with the help of the cube of force shielding him from the rocks the kobolds slung at him. Kylar eventually catches up and is able to successfully get several of them to surrender after they saw the tortle mopping the walls with their brethren using a flaming axe twice their size.
Gux led Khajit and later Nails to the warren where Kothar's cage was. He was disarming a trap when some of the kobolds in the warren began questioning what he was doing. When Gux was unable to convince them to stand down, Khajit had enough and used the 200 gold fireball spell stored in his ring to take out the 5 holed up in there in a single strike. Once the tabaxi and elf were in there they found Kothar's belongings, namely his staff and comm stone. Nails also spotted some very old coins and other relics of a bygone era.
Finally with no immediate threat to the remaining members they decided to rest up and interrogate their kobold prisoners.
