Shardsmith

A shardsmith is inherently a member of the Shardscale Drachenlings species . . . or someone who is able to obtain an extremely high quantity of their saliva on a regular basis. These craftsman specialize in the creation of various bladed items from shed Shardscale. They utilize recently shed from their brethren and form the fragments into larger pieces through the use of their saliva. Shardscale drachenling saliva generates a large amount of heat when it contacts shardscale, allowing the material to temporarily melt. Melted surface are touched to another surface and rapidly cool - preserving the amorphous structure of the glass-like material. This results in a larger 'billet' of shardscale which can be processed through knapping to create a fine edged instrument. In general, these experts sell knives, daggers, scalpels, razors, and weapons. All of these items are horrifically sharp - capable of cutting a free-hanging silk strand.
