Virtues

Loyalty

Being loyal gives glory to their god: the Burned One. All ideals stem from this, though elders stand by it more closely, as the younger generation is (slightly) adapting to the ways of the outside world. Oaths are deemed as absolutely binding. Huge weight is placed on giving someone your loyalty. As a rule, they respect someone who has gained the loyalty of many, or of those in power or positions of standing. Gaining the loyalty of their god - by being loyal to them - is how one receives their favour.

Trade

Trade agreements are seen by most as a high form of loyalty, as one's (economic) bond to another shown through the physical display of a contract, much like marriage. Their god sees it otherwise, as placing another's loyalty above theirs. The Pyre then opposes the idea due to this, though it's the one matter in which they have little sway, as the need for trade wins out.

Vices

Betrayal

To sacrifice another's loyalty is to betray their god, it is the highest form of sin, against: their god; family, because it calls their honour into question; and community, as it weakens the bonds between people with mistrust. No-one would think of it, save for the young, who turn rebel and stray from 'the guiding light'. It is then always done in the utmost of secrecy, for if discovered, the traitor will be marked as a criminal, and denied the proper cremation rights afforded them.

Luck

Those who rely on luck alone are hated, as they either lack strong allies, or worse, refuse to turn to their allies in times of need.

Coming of Age Rites

In their 13th year, they are required to live an entire month as a pauper, surviving on the generosity of others, as they travel around the region, never staying in one house for more than 3 days. This is intended to make them indebted to all, and so strengthen their bonds with the people of the region. The further out they travel, and the longer they spend on it, the more prestige they earn as an adult.

Funerary and Memorial customs

The dead are always cremated, though what happens with their ashes varies with location. They are often scattered over fields (to give back through fertility) or kept in a family mausoleum.
