Rousǔ Zojo Character in Estia | World Anvil

Rousǔ Zojo (ɹaʊ̯sʌ zoʤo)

Background

As the Dragonborn were bred and designed to be slaves, their isn't much to say for their formative years. They reach adulthood quickly, and would learn the cruel ways of the world just as fast. Rousǔ Zojo was one of many who experienced this fate, being underclaw to tyrannical slave drivers with an endless hunger for wealth and beautiful things. Nothing about Rousǔ Zojo was particularly special, a silver dragonborn worked as all the metallic dragonborn did in the pallaces as guards and servants. The fateful difference that set Rousǔ Zojo apart, was what he witnessed in the pallace on an ordinary day.

Forming The Rebellion

As the story goes, there were foreign visitors to the lair of a Tyrant. Four to be exact, but only three presented themselves. The fourth lingered behind, acting as if they were on their own. When the three's audience concluded with the Tyrant, they left and the fourth took their place. As is often had at the beginning of an audience, idle chat was had. The Tyrant in his arrogance, laughed about intending for the previous three to be killed that night. After the fourth concluded his audience, he warned the other three and they all escaped unexpectedly.

Now Dragonborn had been bred as slaves, designed to not crave attachment and discouraged from even making friends. After witnessing the events of the four, Rousǔ Zojo realized these designs were to their own downfall, as individuals none of them would ever escape or overcome a Tyrant. They would need to work together, and if they could do that, then they could do the unexpected themselves.

Greater Deeds

Rousǔ Zojo not only inspired the rebellion of the Kajuzurie, but led them to another world entirely, and brokered the deal that earned them Isteria as a new homeland. During the conquests of Estia, he acted as general over their units and spent time training Estian units in some of the tactics guards were taught by the Tyrants. After unification, Rousǔ led the settlement of the refugees in Isteria and helped establish many of the clans that still exist today.

Death & Memory

Oddly enough, Rousǔ Zojo's death was not without controversey. He was in a public dispute with the Chromatic Order, arguing against their management of the bloodlines. He had claimed to have made a discovery that would damn the Chromatic Order for good when he died suddenly. Monuments of his likeness and dedicated to him appeared in every Kajuzurie settlement across Isteria and public greiving quickly replaced the public debates about the Order. By the time questions were raised, many saw the issue as an affront to the honor of Rousǔ Zojo and would not entertain any attempted tarnishment.

Rousǔ Zojo's deeds made him respected and beloved among his people. Children are taught to recite his story from memory, the most honorific metal that can be awarded to a Kajuzurie soldier is known as the Rousǔ. He is often revered as the ideal Kajuzurie, and many whisper prayers of thankfulness at the many Isterian monuments to his memory.
