Shield

Shield can be cast by either Arcane or Divine spark casters. Shield comes in a variety of styles.

Effect

Under the Arcane spark, shield uses 3 mana points to cast. The spell lasts for 1 minute/ mana tree rank and takes 1 action to cast. It creates an invisible, mobile disk of force that hovers in front of the caster. This shield will block magic missiles and provide the caster with three-quarters cover. (+7 AC and +3 on Reflex saves against area attacks) The disk moves out of the caster's way so it won't give cover to enemies. The disk will only protect you from magic missile and boost AC from one direction, the caster designates the half of the battle they want to have protection on. It is a free action to change the direction of the shield on the caster's turn.

Divine casters have a few more options when casting Shield.

For 3 mana points, the caster can call down a shield of faith on themselves or a touched individual. This creates a shimmering field that surrounds the target. It provides a +2 deflection bonus with an additional +1 for every 10 extra mana spent on casting (max +5).

For 6 mana points, the divine caster can shield one creature for 1 hour/mana tree rank. This creates a mystical connection between the caster and the creature shielded. the target gains +1 deflection to AC and a +1 resistance to saves. Additionally, the target creature only takes half damage from all wounds and attacks that deal it hit point damage. the amount of damage not taken by the shielded creature is taken by the caster. The focus of the spell is a pair of platinum rings (50gp each), one worn by the target, and one by the caster.

For 46 mana points, for 1 round/mana tree rank a divine caster can call forth a dim blue glow that surrounds the caster at a radius of 20 feet. 1 creature/mana tree rank within that area is protected from attacks made by chaotic creatures. Any chaotic creatures entering the area are slowed (Will save negates), but must make the check again any time they succeed in attacking a warded creature. The warded creatures gain a +4 deflection AC and +4 resistance on saves regardless of the alignment of the attackers. The warded creatures also gain Spell Resistance 25 against chaotic spells and spells cast by chaotic creatures. Warded creatures are also protected from possession and mental influences. Focus: Worth at least 500 gp.
