Dwal (DWAL or DWAL-ad-ha)

Old, staunch, and small. The Dwal are a humanoid race mostly residing in their grand mines and tall mountains of Caidh.

Etymology

While the modern name for the race is Dwal, the original name has always been "Dwaladha", "Stone-kin", an ancient name of the race from a long lost language. By dissecting the word into two, you get the word for kin, "Dwal", and the word for stone "Adha". A fitting name for the history of this ancient and mysterious race.

Evolution

The Dwal's origins have long been a mystery to the world, a part of history long lost to time, even to the Dwal themselves. Though they share similarities with the other races of Esteria, no historical evidence can confirm any kind of kinship between any other race. Most archaeological evidence would even suggest that the race itself came from the very stones beneath our feet.

Anatomy

Though they share similarities with the other races of Esteria, much of their biology disproves any theory of kinship. A strong and sturdy race, even their bones are more metal than bone, making it near impossible to break. However, such a tough bone structure also means that, even with their small stature, their bodies are extremely heavy. Yet their muscles make moving around just as easy as any Human.   As the race has spent much of their history in the deep caverns of Esteria, the Dwal have a unique kind of eyesight. While they only have one color hue for their eyes, a bright yellow, their eyes allow them to see clearly in the dark, as if they were standing in bright daylight. However, their eyes have also grown exceptionally sensitive to sunlight, making sunlight much more harmful to them. Too much exposure can even lead to permanent blindness.   Hair colors are usually brown, black or some hue of orange. The hairs on the Dwal grow especially quick, so quick that even children are expected to grow long hair, in some cases even beards, at a very young age of just three. Hair growth is particularly more noticable on males.
