War of The Blue Rose

In response to the formation of the Church of Solidus , the northern Empire became highly resistant to change. The Church of Saints had been granted more and more land by the local lords, who in turn granted them a heightened sense of authority. The Emperor's reforms threatened to remove all of that, while also forcing them to convert to an interpretation of the Saints that they did not agree with.   After many controversies and cultural clashes, House Dullac would demand that all Solidites leave their land or risk imprisonment for heresy. Emperor Franz Eisenberg decided to deploy the Imperial Army to free the clergy and crush any who resisted, an order that generals took quite literally. This response caused the neighboring lords join forces with Dullac and engage in battle with the army out of fear that the violence against their subjects would continue. Soon after, full-scale war was apparent.   Though the Empire's military was quite organized and well-equipped, the old Lord Cardyn Dullac had served as a decorated officer for decades before returning to lead his family's lands. His sons were well-educated in the art of warfare, allowing them to devise various strategies that exploited the weaknesses in the old Imperial formations that had been used for so long. The eldest son, Darvyn Dullac, personally led warbands through the wilderness, ambushing caravans and patrols. He came to be known as the Night Stalker.   The battles dragged on for years. Repeated, bloody fights against their own people cause morale amongst the Army to waver. Many attempts to seat new, pro-Solidus families in the lands would fail due to public discourse or assassination. The shortages of manpower lead to the southern portion of the empire becoming a lawless place, usurped by Wild Elves. At the behest of his advisers and the crown prince, Emperor Franz conceded defeat to the northern families and ordered the Solidites to abandon their conversion efforts. House Dullac's declaration of independence was honored.   Within a few years, the Principality of Dullac was formed, with Darvyn the Night Stalker crowned its first King. Emperor Franz would spend his time deferring to his council for most matters until succumbing to alcoholism. His son took the throne and continued to spread the word of Solidus, but made no attempt to restore relations with Dullac.
