Treatment of Elves in Estemor

In the Fallen Empire of Yora , the people took great care to develop incredible tools of labor. The methods used, whether technological or magical have been lost to time and conflict. As such, the people of Estemor sought a new source to exploit.

Principality of Dullac

Hatred and mistrust of the Wild Elves of Tuatha has persisted since the earliest times of Amertus. But it was not until the slaughter of the Royal Family of Dullac that action was taken to punish the race for the acts of individuals.   As revenge, the citizens engaged in violent pogroms against elves with few repercussions. Once the next monarch was crowned, they wasted little time instituting the slavery. The elves that inhabited each county were put under the direct control of those who owned their land. Some historians argue that this system was intended to protect the elven minority from open violence. As property of nobles, such an act would be a serious crime, at least in theory.   Elves may be tasked with any role their masters demand and face severe punishments for disobeying. While a proper code of conduct was drafted, it is only a set of guidelines and slave owners are not obligated to abide by it. Slaves are almost never seen without some form of collar, tattoo or other identifying marking. Though it is very rare, slaves can be liberated by decree of their owner and a judge. Such freed elves are still held in low regard and often leave the Kingdom.

Empire of Amertus

In the Empire, elves have often been considered second-class citizens. Cities often have districts meant to keep their kind segregated, though there are currently no official government mandates restricting their freedoms so long as they are proper citizens. However, slaves from Dullac are still recognized as such. Asylum seekers are always turned back.   So long as proof of enslavement is provided, any citizen may house and employ slaves from Dullac. This has resulted in an underground slave market, where corrupt officials of Dullac create false slave identities for abducted elves. The Imperial Inquisition works to ensure that such operations are dismantled.

Karelian Republic

The Republic maintains a much more tolerant view towards elves due to their proximity to Tuatha. While the occasional tribe does attempt to cause trouble in the realm, many more visit the various cities that act as prosperous trade hubs. There are more half-elves present in Karelia as well, in part due to the fact that a sizable amount of land was occupied by Tuathan invaders during the early days of the Empire.   The presence of slaves brought from elsewhere within Estemor is frowned upon, but not illegal, though few nobles and businesses would risk being stigmatized for possessing them. A secret society known as the Liberati is dedicated to the liberation and protection of escaped slaves.
