Rogue Deities of Estemor

There are many minor beings of worship in Estemor that are not part of the organized religion of the realm. Many of them are believed to have rose to prominence some time during the Dark Ages, when the Saints' War left the continent in a state of chaos for untold centuries.   Worship of these deities is treated differently depending on the realm. Both the Empire and Principality forbid organized worship of them. The Principality in particular punishes perceived heretics with execution. Though the Republic does allow some religious freedoms, temples dedicated to deities that encourage evil acts are unlikely to stand for long before local authorities shut them down.   This list does not include the gods of peoples not native to Estemor, such as Elves, Dwarves and Orcs. While those deities would also be considered "rogue" in the context of the Estemor pantheon, they may belong to an entirely different pantheon and thus are not truly independent.

Avelia

Legends tell of a Saint once favored by the Antedoros, gaining the power to heal the infirm. She fought against the other Saints when they rebelled, leading an army of conformists against one of the cities that risen against them. After the battle, the city's population was annihilated. Faced with the horrors of her actions, she questioned everything and sacrificed all of her divine power in an attempt to resurrect everyone who had fallen. The Antedoros stripped her of her powers in disgust and Avelia's weakened form quickly decomposed into a field of white flowers, one for each human lost in the incident. When the Saints' War finally ended, it is said that hundreds of people suddenly awoke in that field with only the vague memories of a woman who gave up everything for them. It is only through their traditions that any understanding of Avelia's sacrifice survives. Old shrines and small sects dedicated to the former Saint can be found across Estemor, where those in desperate need of healing pray, even when the Saints cannot aid them.   Alignment: Chaotic Good
Suggested Domains: Life, Grave
Suggested Oaths: Devotion
Suggested Patrons: Celestial, Undying
Common Symbol: White flowers

Khardas

During the dark ages, untold conflicts were waged by the lawless peoples living in the ruins of the fallen empire. In an attempt to gain strength, these people turned to a primordial being that only sought bloodshed. Several warrior cults sought to gain even more favor by harvesting blood from innocents, terrorizing villages until they could be quelled by heroes. But the corrupting power that Khardas bestows could not be suppressed. To this day, debased champions spread his blood-lust to warriors of all kind.   Alignment: Chaotic Evil
Suggested Domains: Death, War
Suggested Oaths: Conquest, Oathbreaker
Suggested Patrons: Fiend, Great Old One
Common Symbol: Cracked Skull, Blood Chalice

Matka Vanya

The children of the Principality are often told the frightening tale of Matka Vanya, though it is quite different depending on which village they were born in. Some say that she was a scorned lover whose prayers were answered by an ancient demon, while others claim she was kidnapped by Elves and corrupted through savage magic. But what is agreed upon is that she is a deceitful being who promises power at a cost. Many naïve youths or desperate adults have ventured into the darkness of the woods in search of her lair, only to never be seen again. At the same time, there are many foul mages and hags who claim to have received power through their offerings to Matka Vanya.   Alignment: Neutral Evil
Suggested Domains: Trickery, Twilight
Suggested Patrons: Archfey, Fiend
Common Symbols: Pentagram, Dolls

Neptys

A banished Saint who enforced Antedoros' will in matters of divine justice. Over time, the rate at sinners appeared before her never seemed to decrease and this weighed heavily on her. The judgements she rendered became harsher and eventually quite cruel. Soon she took delight in punishing wrongdoers and eventually struggled to distinguish the guilty from the innocent. Neptys' malice would become her undoing. Rather than submit to judgement at the hands of another, she fled in exile. Now empowered by the despair of victims, her wicked soul grants power to anyone who believes they have been wronged, so that they may have some form of twisted justice.   Alignment: Lawful Evil
Suggested Domains: Light, Order
Suggested Oaths: Vengeance, Oathbreaker
Suggested Patrons: Fiend, Hexblade
Common Symbols: Chains, Guillotine

Orgulas

A deity originally worshiped by halflings, particularly those who reside isolated communities within the Brunstam forest. Orgulas was once a benevolent spirit of nature that protected the people of the forest. Like the beings that dwelled in those woods, it became malformed by the same incident that caused them to become Goblinoids. Orgulas is said to be trapped between these two identities and can only be sated by the worship its inheritors provide. Halfling communities may revere the memories of its original soul, while those empowered by its corruption encourage the growth of its current form.   Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Suggested Domains: Nature, Tempest
Suggested Oaths: Ancients
Suggested Patrons: Archfey, Great Old One
Common Symbols: A half-dead tree

Vorden

Idelthus Vorden was a human wizard who traveled with Amertus during his journey across Estemor. Inspired by the knowledge he had uncovered in those travels, he devoted decades of his life to researching a means of transcending his mortality through godhood. Records of his later life and trials were kept by his apprentices, who spent their lives fighting over possession of these documents until the survivors went into hiding. Whispers of these events have persisted through time. Modern cults of Vorden selfishly covet arcane knowledge of all kinds in the hopes that their god will share the secrets of his own ascendance with them.   Alignment: Neutral Evil
Suggested Domains: Arcana, Knowledge
Suggested Patrons: Great Old One, Undead
Common Symbols: V-shaped emblem, Golden eyes

Zarnok

The Beast-Father was feared even during the time of Yore. It corrupted nature wherever it went, driven to mate with fearsome animals and corrupt humans alike. The corrupt lineages that it birthed are responsible for the monstrous, unnatural creatures that aspire to infest the world. Small cults dedicated to Zarnok persist under the belief that the Beast-Father kept the world in a state of cosmic balance by spawning chaos to oppose the order other gods sought to establish. Alignment: Chaotic Evil
Suggested Domains: Nature
Suggested Patrons: Fathomless, Undead

Zothis

Orphaned children and those who have suffered from abandonment often find themselves drawn in by her cults, where they are introduced to these conspiracies. Suggested Domains: Light, Trickery
Suggested Oaths: Vengeance
Suggested Patrons: Great Old One, Celestial
