Amertus

The First & Greatest Emperor Amertus

The legendary founder and first Emperor of Estemor following the collapse of the Fallen Empire of Yora.   The legends state that Amertus was born in a small village amidst the blasted and destroyed remnants of the old empire, long after it had been destroyed by the Saints' War. Humanity was long since fragmented and strength alone determined who held power. In the ruins of the ancient city of Avalus, a tribe of vile men known as the Vanderites controlled much of the region, forcing the lesser groups to provide them with tribute. As a young boy, he befriended a wounded girl trapped in the wastes. In time, her power returned to her and she revealed herself to him as Saint Milia. Despite his young age, he rallied the surrounding tribes and villages against the Vanderites and drove them away. For his courage, the others swore fealty to him and worked to rebuild the ruin as a proper city, now known as Avalast.   Several years later, Milia would guide Amertus on the journey of a lifetime. Together with a cohort of his most trusted allies, the pair traversed the entirety of Estemor, charting the land and making contacts with every human enclave along the way. These expeditions would span much of Amertus' life, with only a few years in between spent governing in Avalast. The events of these travels are truly the things of legend, from his battle against hydras in the Great Basin to the daring rescue of his future wife, Simeria. After thirty-five years, the journey was complete. Each and every human settlement on the continent had pledged loyalty to his cause and a new, pure Empire would unite the realm.   The remainder of Amertus' life was spent as the first Emperor of Estemor. Many of the traditions and laws he codified are still honored today and his legends have shaped the culture of his subjects for generations. It is said that Milia herself sat beside him on his deathbed to ensure that his last will and testament was not misunderstood or manipulated. A clear dynastic succession method was enacted, allowing his descendants to continue ruling until the entire royal family perished during the Yellow Pox outbreak in 143. To forever honor his contributions, the Empire of Estemor was renamed in his honor.
