Stur Vadrin Character in Estaphalia | World Anvil

Stur Vadrin

Vadrin, once an eccentric albeit ingenious arcanist, has spent weeks in the Centerfaire asylum after unsanctioned experiments into teleportation. All outward appearances suggest that his prototype teleportation circle led to unintended results, which have had a lasting impact on his mind.

Personal history

Born into a modest merchant's family in Aspendale, Vadrin was rarely liked and often belittled by his peers for his inquisitive nature. As a boy he had a bad habit of asking too many questions, and at times it could get him and those involved into trouble. One evening his father scolded him particularly harshly after he bombarded a traveling scholar about his strange tomes, though this brought him to the attention of the Conservatory. Not long after an Examiner was sent to recruit him as a sage errant at the early age of 14, and began conducting research for the Conservatory's various colleges without allegiance to any kingdom.

Education

Vadrin learned much from his peers and mentors at the Conservatory, but failed for years to find a true calling. He excelled in most fields, though his performance waned as his interest flitted about, never focusing on anything for long. A chance encounter with an escaped smoke mephit ignited a fascination with the creature's origins, and an inspiration to investigate the links between planes that led to its being there. His continuing belief is that the planes are a source of untapped potential for many applications, the most overt one being long-distance interaction and divination.
