A guide to Megaria

Megaria is the shard of the islands west of Amantia. Its rough tides make it a really harsh place to live in, yet some Humans and Lizardfolk withstand the brutal weather conditions.

Geography

Many islands in different sizes and different forms make up the whole scenery of thousand islands. The crazy weather and the tides change the islands a lot, shaping the sandstone and granit the same way as a builder and a carver at the same time.
The only inhabitable lands are the bigger islands of the shard. People mostly try to settle in the inner islands, because the tides and storms make the coast a deadly trap. Also the inner parts of the Islands have more plains to build on. The coastal areas of the islands also are mostly rocky or sandy which makes it hard to build there as well.
The islands to the south have a more warm and welcoming climate in contrast to the nothern icy cold and windy lands, as something wants to protect the northern realms from being discovered. To the west storm brew over the open seas making the way further to the west impossible. Those who tried to, failed miserably.

Localized Phenomena

The islands have a really unpredictable weather, where storms often come in one form and change in many different ways, from small thunder stroms to large tsunamis or dangerous cyclones.

Fauna & Flora

Flora

To withstand the weather, the trees are mostly thick branched and deeply rooted. The roots of these trees can often break even rocks to create a deeper foundation for them to stand and get the minerals they need to grow. Megaria is home to the thickest and strongest trees, that produce the strongest wood for any crafting you could think of. The wood can be so strong that it could dull steel axes.
It's also home to large farns and bushmoss that make out most of the flora found on the islands. The farns are often dried and used as base layer of roofing and on top of that most people put a thick layer of moss.
In the very humid climate, deep root fungi also grow in abundance and make up the main source of food for the inhabitants next to the amounts of fish that can be caught.

Fauna

Most of the animals that can survive this place, are fishes and birds of all sizes and forms. In the seas there are large quantities of fish and squid that enjoy the deep. On the bigger islands animals with thick fur survive the cold and rainy weather, as well as salamanders and other amphibious animals.

Natural Resources

The strong wood is the most expansive resource of Megaria, but also marble and other stones are expansive trading goods in other lands. Otherwise Megaria isn't a very rich place.
