Phantom Rot

Phantom Rot is a relatively new disease that's sprung up in the continent of Tog Darahl. It is believed that infections are arcane or fiendish in nature though no certainty has been established. Once the disease takes hold on a body the host's physicality is slowly morphed in beastly ways.

Transmission & Vectors

While the origin of the infections hasn't been established, some of the symptoms are exacerbated in the presence of fiends and arcane energy sources. Contact with an infected appears to be safe as no cases of infection by touch or proximity have been recorded.

Causes

The specific cause of Phantom Rot is still a mystery. However, many have remarked that the situation has gotten much worse in the areas under the control of the Order of Desolation.

Symptoms

Infected beings start to see a deterioration of their physicality. This is manifested in their skin whithering and turning black, streaks of black veins covering their bodies, and their bodies sprouting animalistic features like fangs and claws. For some the transformations progress unti they are nothing but monstrous beasts while others succumb to the rot and die before completing any transformation.

Treatment

No treatment is known at the moment. Scholars at the University had been experiments before the war started, but contact with the part of the continent has been completely cut off now.

Prognosis

The first symptoms to show up are the superficial ones like the veins and the skin changes. Once the disease starts to progress the transformations start to set in. It is at that point where most can tell if a subject will survive or die. Still, there is currently no way to reverse the transformations. The outcomes for the infected are death or full transformation.
