The Foundry

The city of Bronzehall was founded around an ancient magical Working designed to refine and smelt ore on an impossibly large scale. The settlers who discovered it became some of the most wealthy citizens in Edrana. Mines in the mountains were reopened, and Bronzehall became the #1 producer of iron and steel ingots on the whole continent. However, the most magnificent feature of the Founry lies not in its industrial capabilities, but in its method of gathering energy. Any bronze brought within three miles becomes a heatsink, absorbing energy from the air itself and magically transferring it to the Foundry. Thus, not only is this ancient marvel powered by practically nothing, but it also keeps the southern coastal city a pleasantly brisk temperature.
For centuries, magical researchers had determined that a vast majority of the energy absorbed through bronze was not being sent to the Foundry, but rather to some unknown destination. This destination remained a mystery until thirty years ago, when the mage Dahlia Harkk Harkk discovered that the "lost" energy was being transferred to another Iterum entirely. This alternate reality featured a world covered in eternal winter, save for a single city kept at warm, tropical temperatures. After making contact with the leaders of Bronzehall's cousin city, Harkk developed a method of siphoning portions of energy from the Foundry, allowing both cities to harness and utilize the power.
In the decades since, Harkk and her new company, Harkkorp Industries, have developed countless innovations, from personal communication devices to high-speed public transportation. Buildings are provided with temperature control, electric lighting, refrigeration, and running water - all for incredibly low prices, so long as they allow bronze plating to be installed on their homes! The Foundry operates the same as ever, continuing to make the Bronzesmiths rich, but the city around it has transformed into an island of technological wonders.
