Though the Vinelasher Kudzu is venerated among the Elvish people, the same can not be said for the Gnomish people. Though removing a Vinelasher Kudzu from Elvish territory is an offense punishable by up to 10 years in an Elvish prison, early in the Elvish Union's reign a gnomish research team ventured into Ossirion under the cover of darkness and obtained a rare specimen of the plant.
Over the next four decades, the Gnomish Council sanctioned tests on the plant to identify if it could be weaponized against the Elves. The tests skewed aggressively and went well beyond traditional botany and into experiments with wild magic. Ultimately the tests proved successful but not in the way the Gnomes had hoped.

Their efforts had served to create something dreadful and new. The kudzu that was awakened and bellicose to its creators, killing a number of Gnomes as it overwhelmed the researchers who were unprepared. It escaped from its laboratory in Spritzlewerks a tore through the city on its escape. The Kobold Dispatch - Spritzlewerks later confirmed that the Gnomish Council had the being in question and through its experiments imbued it with sentience.
Centuries have passed since that day and sightings have been rare but not rare enough for the Elvish Union to give up their pursuit of the creature and intent on returning it to its natural state.
