Thistlethonrn Tree

Botanist Findings:

The Thistlethorn is a rare species of Redwood tree. It is native to more arid and moderate climates with little rainfall. Its seeds and bark, which are only harvestable in months of Hearthwake and Eicewain provides a rejuvenating effect on its user, provided it is harvested and synthesized correctly.   The bark and outer shell of the seed are remarkably tough and must be cooked for six hours in a mixture of kobold acid and holy water. Only then is the soft inner pulp accessible. The balm or drink that can be made is often used by travelers and adventures to push through fatigue. However, Tabaxi, Gobins, and Genasi seemingly are unaffected by the Thistlethorn and thus find the pulp that is utilized useless.

Horticultural Findings:

Growing to nearly 225 feet on average and are home to many species. The tree's root system is extensive and large and usually no one area can support more than one Thistlethorn without damage to the ecosystem. This is why it was strange that recent reports around Mithrigal of up to 200 in one area has many scientists skeptical of the existence of such an anomaly.   The bark of the tree is covered with nearly imperceptible thistles that make contact with the tree without proper gear dangerous and painful. Upon contact, an irritant is injected into the skin causing intense irritation for up to 6 days. The itching has been described as "only the most infuriating thing in all of Espen." As scratching any location spreads the irritant which is why, despite its benefits, it is rarely harvested.

Herbalism:

Though it has medicinal uses to relieve bouts of exhaustion and soothe frayed nerves it is most frequently used for study as the inner pulp makes a perfect culture for studying bacterial anomolies. It can be combined with Alta Flower to make a rare healing potion though the process takes some time.
