Goldfang - Devourer of Avarice

Lore:

Viscount Shurwood Everlane IV had an unhealthy relationship to his unreasonable surplus of gold. His detractors didn't know much about him, save for two things:
  1. His gold rivaled even that of the Bank of Espen.
  2. His love for the gold rivaled the finest love stories ever told.
He was as mean as he was frugal, but the only thing he would spend a reasonable amount of gold was security if defense of preserving what he had. The most notable of these defenses was a 30-foot python that he kept among in his treasure room with his most valuable possessions.   While he hoarded gold, VSE also coveted a great deal of magical items, among them was the Crown of Sacred Bonds.  The crown, an artifact of Dwarven culture, had belonged to Kindara the Enflamed, an Apostle Queen of old. She used it to keep her ailing husband alive for some time despite an assassin's poison.  Bonding her life force to the crown, her love kept both of their heart beating.   As the Viscount's love for his treasures grew, the crown was activated, and bonded to the only thing available. The snake who he had affectionately named Goldfang.  His love brought her sentience, knowledge, and a hunger.  She clothed herself in the finery afforded her in his treasure room and when he saw what his love wrought he could not turn away. It was his own avarice made living. As he gazed into her eyes, she coiled around him, devouring him...and his love.   Yes as she possessed the crown she could now survive without him, needing only his heart to keep beating, which is now did, inside of her.

Spread

The legend of Goldfang is believed to be an elaborate plot by the human members of the Bank of Espen.  As their counterparts, the Goblins of Hatchetwinks are known to be a superstitious bunch many believe the story was devised as a means of keeping any one Gobin from amassing too much wealth.  Only time will tell if it worked.
