Ownership

Mandelbrot Mandlebaum was the youngest child of Ablis Nattan and his 4th wife Kalik Mandlebaum, and is, for all intents and purposes considered the luckiest man in Espen. This was due in part to his ability to survive the Muskeg Reformations. A ten-year power grab in which Albis Nattan's 39 children fought for land, titles, and position in the city that bore his namesake.   Being one of the younger siblings, his ability to survive that tumultuous time was quite impressive, but still only part of his story. He survived mostly by running and hiding, avoiding capture and sometimes death at the hands of his brothers and sisters that bore him ill-will. In his closest encounter with bounty hunters that had been hired by his eldest brother, he escaped into the Kindling Caves, so named for their increased presence of Firebears.

History & Lore

While most were wary of the caves for good reason, as a last refuge, Mandlebrot hid deep within the caverns for days. Eventually losing his bearings and nearly going mad before he stumbled into a vast opening at the cave's farthest point north where he discovered the largest untapped vein of gold ore in Espen. He eventually found his way out and began mining, slowly and quietly amassing a fortune, and using his newfound wealth to clear the board of any who might challenge the Mandlebaums' claim to the western enclave. Forming the Golddiggers Mining Company, he now had all the resources necessary to not only protect himself but his company and lands.   Once the dust had settled, Mandlebrot was declared governor of the Western Inlands and Golddiggers prominence made the Western Inlands, now remained Mandlebaums the economic center of Nattan Mal.
