Brickback Turtle Powder

Medical Finding

When dried and ground into powder the Brickback Turtle Shell acts as an irritant to Goblins, Hobgoblins, and Orcs.  The compound can cause sneezing fits, coughing, and watery eyes, when exposed long-term the symptoms escalate to exposure fatigue and confusion. Its effects on humanoids are far more mild and is sometimes used as a spice in Dwarvish and Tabaxi meals.   When suspended in oil it can be used by humanoids to treat the symptoms of the common cold, clearing out the sinuses and alleviating fevers as it is also a mild stimulant.

Herbalism

Its average cost makes it one of the most expensive reagents in Espen, as engaging the Brickback Turtle in combat is ill-advised.  Mostly recovered from dead shells that wash up on beaches, which in and of itself is a rare occurrence as the appearance of their shells on land spawns many pirates, adventurers, scientists, and collectors all vying for it as a prize.   However, if one were to get their hands on a shell, they would need to take great care in handling it as the inner core of the shell holds a high acidic substance that can render the shell useless if not carefully drained.

Manufacturing process

The process takes at minimum 16 hours as the shell must first be drained and smoked.  This process requires orienting the shell vertically, carefully puncturing it at its base and allowing the acidic core to drain.  Once drained the shell will need to be broken down, crushed, and then grinded into a small powder.  As most shells (even when dried) weigh 250-300 lbs, the process can yield as much as 30-40 portions of powder.
