Arbor's Hollow

[History]

East of Ossirion and deep in the Shugam Forest is the town of Arbor's Hollow. Considered by the Elvish Union to be the last vestige of civilized society before one enters Drow Elf Territory. The dense foliage of Black Bamboo along with the massive Cypress trees native to the area drove the industry of logging garnering the town its name.  Once an innavigable and untamed forest, Keryth Arbor literally hollowed out a place for his town. A logger by trade, the fast-growing bamboo made for a unique, reliable, and profitable industry.   However a history of overharvesting evneutally harmed the ability to rely on black bamboo as the only industry.  6 generations after the establishment of the town the bamboo had become so sparse that the entire industry nearly crashed.  The town found its ability to pivot through a rather industrious elf knwon as Tinasia Carzeiros found the solution.  Instead of selling the lumber as entire logs, Tinasia, a well versed craftswoman in her own right, turned one log that would have sold for 130 GP when turned into lumber into 37 different instruments that sold for anywhere from 25 GP up to 160 GP individually.  With the first influx of cash, it was clear the superior wood of the area made for outstanding instruments, leading to the highly specialized but incredibly lucrative industry of bespoke musical instruments.

[Locations]

The oldest instrument shop in Arbor's Hollow is Windfall is well established for their craftsmanship and rich sound.  Using the now rare, but still native black bamboo for reeds and the hearty cypress wood for the body of a number of instruments.    The newest shop not only creates their own instruments but has become something of a repository for historical musical pieces and music history. Bards & Noble has made waves as a bit of an upstart but somewhat of a destination for composers and performers.   The inn in town has been known by a number of different names due to ownership changing hands a great deal of time. It began as the 13/8th's Inn however that was sold to a group of sea elves who dubbed it the 17/16th's and then it was resold to a human who turned it into a hunting lodge for his wealthy clients chrsitened it 33/4th's. Finally it returned to Elvish hands where Dirue Quimoira cannonized the history of the inn with its current name, the Hard Times Inn. Founded by a retired conductor, many of the patrons of this inn find the constantly playing music that enchants the halls to be relaxing. Though the music does tend to set patrons at ease, the soft melody does to cause individuals to occasionally oversleep.   The only area to find common items or restock is the habitually understocked Arpeggio, the small shop has been on the verge of closing for years but is only sustained by the local need for common goods.
