Serkland Caliphate

The Serkland Caliphate is an empire spreading outward from the Unknown East, beyond the Midgard Wall. Serkland is in perpetual conflict with both the Vall Empire and the Miklagardian Empire, ever pressing inward for control of Midgard. If either front were to fall, Serkland would be able to sweep across the whole of Midgard, most of which is woefully unprepared for the power these sorcerer-kings wield and for their vast armies.   The Caliphs manage to hold on to power by binding fire vaettir (they call them ifrit) to themselves. They can thus cast aside the Mist, as well as brutally subjugate their enemies. The longterm effects of widespread possession by these jinn are unknown.

Inspiration

The caliphs control much of what would be the Middle East and Africa, and are engaged in a war with Valland for control of Andalus (the Iberian peninsula). In Norse sagas, Serkland was the name for the Abbasid Caliphate, which also serves as the rough inspiration for the realm. In The Ragnarok Era, the Caliphate stretches farther than its historical counterpart actually did.
