Aujum
Aujum is a wide swathe of land stretching from the Gandvik Sea in the north to the Black Sea in the south. This region is inhabited primarily by the Ás tribes (the Æsir).
Geography
Aujum consists of vast rolling hills and woodlands, but is bounded by the Sudurberks to the south and the oppressive Járnvidr to the east.
Fauna & Flora
The wilds of Aujum are roamed by numerous megafauna, most notably reindeer and mammoths.
History
The Æsir claim descent from Loridi, whom they say was blessed by the Vanir. They are, in fact, descendants of the Lofdar whom Loridi (a Lof general) led away from the collapse of his kingdom.
Previously, the Æsir lived in Bjarmaland and along the Black Sea (in the Kiovia region which is now controlled by the jotunn Hymir). Following an invasion from the Huns, the Æsir were united in the Great March by King Vingethor. He was the last King of the Æsir.
Vingethor led the Æsir into Aujum, which they claimed as their new home. He achieved this in part because Idunn granted him Gungnir, a spear that later came to his descendant, Odin.
Inspiration
Aujum (the Ukraine and a stretch of Poland) is an alternate spelling for Oium, a part of Scythia found in history and Norse mythology. In the Prose Edda, Snorri supposes the Aesir may have been a mortal tribe escaping from the destruction of Troy and traveling west. The Ragnarok Era merges this idea with Indo-European migrations across Europe and Asia.
