Miklagard
The Miklagardian Empire is a major South Realms power consisting of proper Miklagard and Outer Miklagard. It encompasses almost all the lands south of the Sudurberks.
Miklagard is the largest, strongest nation in all of Midgard. It manages to exist and thrive despite the Mist and other threats the Era due primarily to two factors. First, the city itself is located in one of the most temperate regions of Midgard, allowing more agriculture and safer living than anywhere in the North Realms.
Secondly, the city is led by a god-emperor and his twelve disciples, called the Patriarchs.
Show Spoiler
The Miklagardian empire is corrupt to its core, replete with labyrinthine politics, and generally a haven for all manner of debauchery. It has been slowly spreading across Midgard, held back primarily through its conflict with the Serkland Caliphate to the south.
All of these rulers are immortals—vampires. They maintain their rule through a relic called the Ordrerir, one that houses the blood of Kvasir.
Inspiration Notes
Miklagard was a name Vikings gave to Byzantium when they encountered it. In this case, the name refers to both the city and the entire empire, which also encompasses most of Eastern Europe and Italy, which are called Outer Miklagard.
