Gnomes

The Gnomes are a short race of peoples that hail from countries of wealth, large mining industries, and advanced technology. They tend to live between 250 and 300 years, reaching adulthood around age 40, and becoming an elder at age 200. Their heights range from 3’ to 3’5”. They are also the smallest represented population of Gadael, sitting at only 30 individuals - about 10% of the total population - due to most of their species being wiped out during the Dark Ages of Exploration.   They are particularly intelligent, and often resort to logic and reason to solve disputes and problems. Despite their inclination to learn, they are often skeptical of the inexplicable, such as magic. This has led to their general dislike and distrust of the Elves, including their tools and methods. Gnomes are also very honest and truthful, seeing lying as a tactic that only fools looking to protect themselves resort to using. Gnomes tend to favor a strong council made up of the most intelligent and wise individuals for their government, regardless of an individual’s age or gender.   The Gnomes have a strong bond with the Orcs, as their leaders get along very well and they compliment their strengths and weaknesses like light to shadow. They were the first to establish an alliance and form Gadael, so their districts share a large border along the Gadael Canal.   Gnomes generally tend to put up with the Humans, though they find their underhanded methods distasteful and haggle extensively with them whenever they make unreasonable demands in trade.   Elves are the most distrusted by the Gnomes. Elves use magic the Gnomes find unstable and they like taking the simple way around most problems, which sometimes results in unintended side-effects that can cause damage to themselves or others.
