Erpos Zanvyn

Erpos Zanvyn is the current Council leader of the Glowyr - The Gnome District and is 98 years old - about 50 in human years, maturity-wise. Before coming to Argoll, Erpos was a renowned leader and chancellor in his hometown, known to be an excellent judge of character and the law. He dedicated his life to work and the pursuit of knowledge, proud to use his problem-solving skills, diplomacy, and wisdom to uphold the law of society. He trained many apprentices in the ways of government and leadership, most that went on to represent and uphold the laws of the community. He served his hometown for nearly 43 years in various positions of government, starting right out of Law School at age 40 when he officially became an adult. Although his calling was noble and his work was fulfilling, he often felt lonely and wondered what more his life could be.   When Erpos was 83 years old, he overheard that a group of Gnomes were to be sent off into the new world during the age of exploration to find riches and resources to further advance technology. Seeing this as an opportunity that would surely enliven his stagnating life, he left his leadership position to his recently-graduated and most trusted apprentice. With the help of a highly-skilled crew of sailors and the most powerful of steamboats, Erpos joined the departing Gnomes and set sail for the new world, assuming leadership of a fraction of what would be the first Gnomes to Argoll’s shores in 1808. He brought three of his most trusted friends from his hometown - Ile Blackberry, Korvin Beren, and Ortwin Locke - who also wanted to explore the world. As natural leaders, they rallied and supported the other Gnomes, determined to retrieve many fortunes and treasures that would further industrialize the vastly-growing society of their homeland.   Upon arriving at Argoll, nearly all of their Steamboats were torn apart from navigating the coastline. This did little to discourage them, though; they were confident they could replace and even improve upon the steamboats that were lost when they looked into the promising, alluring forest of Ersterwald and the mountains looming on the horizon. All 2000 of the Gnomes led by the triad of leaders delved further and further into the forest, using pikes, spears, and guns to drive away the monsters and denizens within. They were not without casualties, however - nearly 400 Gnomes were lost on the journey to the first settlement, and the triad took this reality harshly. Luckily, Ile, Erpos, and Ortwin were able to push through and reach their established destination of Ziel, a mountain not too far from the coastline. A mining settlement named after the mountain was established and the 1600 Gnomes remaining got to work looking for riches. For two years, the Gnomes lived here, tortured and barely able to make ends meet. Much to their dismay, Ortwin was slain and eaten by a flying monster the Gnomes referred to as Schrecken, or Terror. Over that time, Ile and Erpos found comfort in each other, having lost one of their closest friends, and they ruled over the settlement together to the best of their abilities.   However, the triad’s skills in leadership and problem-solving was not enough to defend Ziel from the flying monsters, so he woefully called a retreat. The Gnomes headed into the forest, bringing whatever resources, gems, and technology they could muster. They built a new, defensible village called Glowyr. For two more years, they managed to survive long enough to encounter the Orcs, who had also migrated inward to the forest after their village fell. Erpos and the Orc Chieftan, Kril G'orloth, connected very well and established a bond of mutual respect and support between the two tribes.   Since the Gnomes were able to share more resources and be protected by the monsters with the help of the Orcs, living conditions became somewhat stable. Prior to Gadael's formation, Erpos and Ile started a family together and had two children - Ortwin (as named after their close friend) and Grenli. Although Erpos and the other Gnomes went through hell in the process of settling on Argoll and did not find the fortune they were seeking, Erpos claims that his life gained much more purpose and value knowing that he moved his society many steps forward and made meaningful connections with others along the way, even those not of his own race.
