Following the riot in the town square, the Misfits settled in for a few days in Fort Blackrot to resupply and plan their next move. Between lessons in pickpocketing, card games, reflections on the nature of reality and one night stands, the Misfits managed to pick up a bit of work.
Their first task was set by the elf Flintosrym, the town alchemist with rumoured Resistance affiliations. Throckmorton came to him in search of a new spell book, he pointed them in the direction of nearby Fallowpeat Bog. After fighting their way through the ghoul-infested bog, they came upon the former cottage of the wizard Wendelmorn, only to discover he had apparently been arrested some time prior by Imperial witch hunters. Though his cottage had been thoroughly ransacked by the Imperials, they had failed to find the secret cache beneath the floor of the hut.
Returning to town with their gains, they set their sights next on the local Freelancers Guild Chapterhouse. Following the confirmation that word of disappearance of the INS Salient had not yet spread this far east, they then inquired into the possibility of joining the Guild. In response, they were pointed in the direction of Worli, a Journeyman Freelancer who happened to be in town. The Misfits made her acquaintance, and she agreed to "Regard" them by taking them along on a job, which would serve as their "Trial".
During their hunt for the bounty in question; a forest gnome druid named Snomlor, Throckmorton, perhaps uncomfortable at the thought of consigning a fellow forest gnome and magic-user to a fiery fate on a pyre, turned on Worli instead. The veteran Freelancer met her death at the hands of the Misfits and Snomlor, who in gratitude gave them money and some supplies before setting off for the relative safety of the North.
In order to attain the Warrants they needed to operate in the Freelancers Guild and take bounties, the Misfits engineered a clever bit of deception with the local Guild Chaptermaster. Veers took on the guise and mannerisms of the deceased and incinerated Worli, convincing the Chaptermaster to confirm the status of Throckmorton, Phyraal and Horatio as Guild Members.
Equipped with their pewter Member-level warrants, they were able to sell their service and simultaneously hitch a lift with a merchant caravan headed to Skaldenburg. After six uneventful days, they found themselves within sight of the gates of the capital.
