Sinjaani (sin-YAW'-nē)

Sinjaani (she/her/hers) is the Deity of Magic. Her Divine Domains include Ambition, Dreams, Fate, Knowledge, Magic, Perfection, Secrecy and Truth. Other Aliases include "The First Oracle."

History

Sinjaani is sometimes known as The First Oracle and is often regarded literally as such. In ages past, before magic was understood and tamed as it has become, she was an elf with a natural affinity for magic—particularly divination. She gradually gained a following among mortals who came to her seeking answers regarding their fates and was held in great reverence. She drew the attention of Payat who granted her greater power and aided her ascension to godhood.   During the The Divine Wars, as mortals sought ways to protect themselves, Sinjaani took pity on them and began to devise a means they might utilize magic themselves. Through a process only she understands, Sinjaani bound all of the world's magic into the Weave. Through the Weave and with instruction from the goddess, mortals gained a measure of control over magic, giving rise to the first wizards.   Sinjaani was the first to see, after The Banished Queen's ritual, a path towards peace. She first approached Mei-Wyn, then Payat with her plan which proved instrumental in getting all deities to agree to the peace talks. She suggested many of the specific conditions of the eventual truce of the War to Brashar as he wrote the treaty, and still can serve as an advisor to any being, divine or mortal, who faces a seemingly unsolvable conundrum.

Personality

Sinjaani has a fittingly logical and level-headed approach to anything she faces, but she is not unkind. She values honesty and anyone who attempts to lie to her will likely find themselves stonewalled until they confess to the truth. Though some mortals perceive her as more lawful due to her construction of the Weave and rules for manipulation of magic, she saw the value in the potential chaos of making magic accessible to all who desired it, rather than only those born with an innate affinity for it.

Appearance & Aspects

When appearing in visions, Sinjaani most often takes her mortal form of a dark-skinned elf with silver hair and intense grey eyes. When a stronger impression is necessary, she instead appears as a massive figure mostly obscured by a robe of shifting colors, except for weathered hands which hold a crystal ball and a wand.   Sinjaani has no known Aspects.

Relationships

Payat

Though it is unclear what their relationship is now, Payat and Sinjaani are believed to have had something akin to a romantic relationship prior to the Divine Wars. Because of their past and both deities' interest in the future, their followers will often become unlikely allies out of mutual respect.

Followers

Sinjaani's followers are often referred to simply as her Disciples, while the high priests are the Enlightened. They are involved in many of the schools and colleges throughout the world. Though Sinjaani is the Goddess of Magic, her Disciples include even those with no affinity for the arcane but who are invested in furthering knowledge and understanding in any field.

Tenets & Practices

Due to her Disciples' focus beyond only magic, those who follow Her faith adhere to tenets which have little to do with the arcane. To show devotion to Sinjaani, her followers are encouraged to seek all learning, but especially any which will increase their wisdom and allow them to better face the trials of their future. It is anathema for them to destroy any source of knowledge, and to deliberately lie. Because of this, many Disciples have mastered the art of speaking in veiled language or half-truths when it would disadvantage them to tell the full truth. Sinjaani seems to tolerate such behavior, but only to a certain degree. Excessive abuse of this practice leads to her disfavor and can only be rectified by spending a year under a spell which forces one to speak only clear truths in all interactions.

Holy Symbol

Sinjaani's holy symbol is a crystal ball within which is an eye with eight lashes. Some particularly devoted Disciples commission the creation of such a crystal ball which they say enables them to scry things that would escape most attempts at divination. Most Disciples, however, instead keep amulets or similar adornments etched with a simple depiction of the symbol.

Pathfinder Game Info

Sinjaani's favored weapon is a Starknife and her Divine Attributes are Intelligence and Wisdom.   Clerics who choose to follow Sinjaani can choose a Holy or Unholy sanctification and either Heal or Harm, and gain Arcana as their Divine Skill. Due to Sinjaani's relationship with magic, they are granted five rather than four additional Cleric spell options as they progress. These spells are Disguise Magic (1st Rank), Clairaudience (3rd Rank), Clairvoyance (4th Rank), Never Mind (6th Rank) and Detonate Magic (9th Rank).
